Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking an engineering professional to design, develop, and implement components and products from concept to production. You will support prototype builds, testing, and design validation while coordinating changes and new product introductions to minimize manufacturing disruption.

Requires an accredited Engineering degree (Mechanical/Design) with 3-5 years of relevant experience. Travel up to 20% and onsite work are expected as part of this role.

About IPSD

Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary

Caterpillar's 11-18L Engine Platform Team, within IPSD-L, is focused on delivery industry leading engine systems for Caterpillar and Third-Party customers through the Cat and Perkins Brands. We enable customer success by delivering products that meet or exceed expectations for performance, value, and durability within our portfolio of engines.

Role Definition

Designs, develops, builds, and implements new components, products, technologies or services from concepts to production.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and document functional requirements and convert them into detailed design specifications.
  • Participate in buy-versus-build evaluations for product components.
  • Support product design and development activities, including prototype builds, testing, design validation, manufacturability reviews, and launch readiness.
  • Analyze production, engineering, and quality data to identify root causes, risks, constraints, and improvement opportunities.
  • Coordinate engineering changes, product transitions, and new product introductions while minimizing manufacturing disruption.
  • Research new materials and competitive products.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
  • Support supplier development and performance improvement activities with supply specialists and buyers.
  • Guide drafting and testing specialists as needed.
  • Contribute to prepare proposals, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve product issues and integrate customer and business requirements.
  • Manage and deliver projects that achieve cost targets, reliability goals, and program timelines.
  • Design and develop products that satisfy customer expectations for cost, performance, durability, and quality.
  • Foster collaboration within the team and with global partners and communicate results effectively across stakeholders like global customers, process partners, and other business units.

  • Products and Services: Knowledge of major products and services; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Knowledge of self-management practices, including managing multiple priorities, projects, and activities effectively.
  • Knowledge of specialized design and graphics tools to create, analyse, simulate, and test product designs.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviours.
Degree Requirement

Requires a degree in accredited Engineering, Mechanical / Design or a related Engineering discipline with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
