The role operates within an offshore analytics hub, collaborating with the Data Architect and onshore BI Lead to deliver scalable, secure BI solutions. You will lead complex BI workstreams, design reusable semantic components, and ensure data structures, security, and refresh processes align with enterprise standards.
The Consulting BI Developer serves as anenterprise technical authority for Power BI performance, shared semanticmodels, access architecture, and business intelligence engineering practices.Operating as part of an offshore analytics hub, this role is responsible forthe performance, reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability ofenterprise BI products and the semantic models that support them.
The role partners closely with theConsulting Data Architect at the interface between curated SQL datastructures and the semantic layer. Together, these roles design and deliverreusable enterprise semantic models, define data and access requirements, resolvecross-layer performance and modeling issues, and ensure that data structures,relationships, calculations, security, refresh processes, and governedbusiness metrics operate as an integrated solution.
The Consulting BI Developer also partnerswith the onshore BI Lead to develop, govern, and continuously improve theenterprise analytics design system, technical standards, reusable components,and development practices. The role provides advanced technical guidance,reviews complex solutions, resolves ambiguous or enterprise-impacting issues,and enables distributed development teams to deliver consistent, governed,secure, and high-performing analytics products.
Responsibilities:
Own the technical performance, reliability,scalability, security, and maintainability of enterprise Power BI productsand shared semantic models.
Lead complex or enterprise-impacting BIdeliverables and technical workstreams with limited oversight, fromarchitecture and solution design through development, validation, release,monitoring, enhancement, and retirement.
Identify technical risks, performanceconstraints, security concerns, data limitations, architectural dependencies,and delivery issues early and recommend practical mitigation actions.
Provide technical direction, peer review,coaching, and escalation support to BI developers and distributed deliveryteams without direct people-management responsibility.
Design, develop, optimize, govern, andmaintain shared enterprise semantic models that support multiple analyticsproducts, business functions, and stakeholder groups.
Define and implement appropriate model grain,dimensions, relationships, hierarchies, measures, calculation groups,aggregations, partitions, row-level security, and object-level security.
Develop and govern reusable DAX measures,calculation patterns, naming conventions, business terminology, andsemantic-model components.
Reduce duplicated models, inconsistentcalculations, unmanaged measures, fragmented reporting logic, andinconsistent access rules through reusable and governed semantic-layersolutions.
Monitor and improve query performance, reportresponsiveness, refresh duration, model size, memory utilization, capacityconsumption, concurrency, and overall user experience.
Diagnose DAX formula-engine and storage-engineperformance, model cardinality, relationship behavior, calculationdependencies, query patterns, and resource-intensive report interactions.
Use DAX Studio, Power BI Performance Analyzer,VertiPaq Analyzer, Tabular Editor, ALM Toolkit, XMLA endpoints, MicrosoftFabric monitoring capabilities, and comparable approved tools to inspect,troubleshoot, compare, optimize, and maintain semantic models.
Establish performance baselines, monitoringpractices, diagnostic procedures, alerting approaches, and serviceexpectations for enterprise BI products.
Partner with the onshore BI Lead to develop,govern, and continuously improve the enterprise analytics design system.
Partner with the Consulting Data Architect todefine the interface between curated SQL data structures and the enterprisesemantic layer.
Collaborate on analytical model grain,conformed dimensions, fact structures, relationships, data contracts,lineage, aggregation strategies, metric logic, refresh design, securityattributes, and performance optimization.
Design and govern the enterprise Power BIaccess model using least-privilege principles and approved identity andentitlement standards.
Define appropriate use of row-level security,object-level security, workspace roles, application audiences, buildpermissions, sharing controls, service principals, and self-service access.
Establish reusable dynamic security patternsusing governed identity, organizational hierarchy, role, population,geography, and entitlement data.
Establish and apply technical review criteriafor enterprise BI products, semantic models, shared components, and accessmodels.
Test row-level security, object-levelsecurity, workspace access, application audiences, build permissions, andentitlement rules using representative user roles before release.
Use controlled development, versioning,comparison, deployment, and rollback practices to reduce production risk.
Support production deployments, post-releasemonitoring, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and stabilization.
Apply and reinforce standards for versioncontrol, peer review, modular development, testing, deployment, releasemanagement, monitoring, documentation, security, privacy, and data retention.
Protect confidential and restrictedinformation through approved access controls, data-handling practices,privacy requirements, security standards, and least-privilege principles.
Use approved AI-enabled tools to accelerateDAX and SQL drafting, technical documentation, metadata analysis, testdevelopment, diagnostic investigation, quality review, and solutionevaluation.
Independently validate AI-assisted code,calculations, recommendations, interpretations, security logic, anddocumentation before use or release.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems,Computer Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics,Business, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education andexperience may be considered.
7+ years of progressively responsibleexperience developing, optimizing, supporting, or governing businessintelligence and enterprise analytics solutions.
Advanced experience with Power BI, DAX, PowerQuery, semantic models, reusable measures, calculation groups, security,deployment pipelines, and performance optimization.
Experience designing and supporting enterprisePower BI access models, including row-level security, object-level security,dynamic security, workspace roles, application audiences, semantic-modelpermissions, build permissions, and governed self-service access.
Experience using semantic-model developmentand diagnostic tools such as DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, ALM Toolkit,VertiPaq Analyzer, Power BI Performance Analyzer, XMLA endpoints, orcomparable tools.
Advanced SQL experience and demonstratedexperience working with cloud-based analytical platforms, distributeddatabases, or large and complex enterprise datasets.
Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling,model grain, relationships, conformed dimensions, aggregation strategies,lineage, and semantic-layer design.
Experience leading complex technicaldeliverables or defined workstreams across multiple products, teams, systems,or business functions.
Experience reviewing technical solutions,resolving ambiguity, managing dependencies, communicating risk, andrecommending scalable approaches.
Experience providing technical guidance, peerreview, mentoring, or enablement to developers and technical delivery teams.
