Job Purpose:
To ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of the electrical service function and supervise electrical maintenance activities during normal working hours, shifts and breakdown situations. The role is responsible for coordinating with Maintenance and Production teams for predictive, preventive and breakdown maintenance, ensuring maximum equipment availability, compliance with electrical safety and statutory requirements, and effective utilization of resources.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure reliable electrical services to Production Departments, Power House and Township by maintaining high availability of essential electrical equipment while adhering to safety, quality and cost objectives.
- Independently carry out predictive, preventive and breakdown maintenance, fault finding and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
- Operate and maintain LT & HT electrical systems and equipment, including breakers, transformers, motors, AC/DC variable speed drives, DG sets, turbine generators, ESPs and auxiliary panels.
- Ensure health and reliability of electrical transmission and distribution networks serving the plant, township and salt works.
- Plan and execute electrical equipment shutdowns and maintenance activities in line with preventive maintenance schedules.
- Lead electrical maintenance activities during shifts and independently handle electrical issues, breakdowns and emergencies.
- Coordinate with Production, Maintenance and other departments for planned maintenance, breakdown restoration and other operational activities.
- Lead engineers, electricians and contractor personnel to execute electrical jobs safely, efficiently and within the planned timelines.
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical statutory and legal requirements related to plant operation and maintenance.
- Drive improvement in job quality, equipment reliability and minimization of electrical breakdowns.
- Prepare and implement action plans for electrical safety and achievement of zero-accident objectives.
- Support planning and execution of electrical projects in the Chemical Division in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure effective maintenance of electrical equipment and systems through appropriate maintenance strategies and technology adoption.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Prepare the annual revenue budget for the Electrical Department in consultation with Area Engineers and Manager – Electrical.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies, products, maintenance practices and procedures for improving reliability and efficiency.
- Ensure effective implementation and compliance of applicable management systems and standards, including ISO 14001, ISO 45001/18001 and TBEM requirements.
- Provide and maintain communication facilities such as telephone services for the plant and township.
- Maintain SAP records, including QM and maintenance notifications, as applicable.
- Maintain electrical maintenance records, data and documentation through appropriate computer applications.
- Actively participate in and support current and future business, safety, reliability, digitalization and operational improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate multiple maintenance activities simultaneously and ensure effective prioritization based on operational criticality.
- Support manpower planning, work allocation and effective utilization of internal and contract manpower.
Educational Qualifications:
B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering
Certification/s or Training/s:
Relevant training/certification in Electrical Safety, HT/LT Electrical Systems, Electrical Maintenance, SAP/CMMS and applicable statutory requirements will be preferred.
Work Experience:
6–10 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance/services, preferably in a continuous-process or chemical manufacturing industry, with experience in HT/LT systems, electrical equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, shutdown maintenance and team supervision.
Work Environment:
Chemical manufacturing plant environment involving field and electrical installations, HT/LT substations, power distribution systems, production areas, Power House and township facilities. The role requires frequent field presence, working around operating electrical equipment and coordination with Production, Maintenance and other functional teams. Strict adherence to electrical safety, statutory requirements, PPE and plant safety procedures is essential.
Travel Frequency:
As required for official work, technical interactions, projects, vendor visits, training and benchmarking.
Shift:
General shift and rotational shift, including responsibility as Electrical Shift In-charge. May require availability during breakdowns, emergencies and critical maintenance activities.
