Job summary

Corning Incorporated is seeking a laboratory-focused scientist to design, analyze and report experiments, acting as a technical expert in lab techniques.

Responsibilities include overseeing equipment operation and maintenance, guiding experiment design, developing methods, training staff, solving process issues, and documenting SOPs while collaborating with customers to test samples.

Qualifications

• Contributor as a primary author on at least one formal written report or living document commonly used as a reference per year.
• Has documented at least one example of intellectual property.
• For example: R-Reports, NTRs, knowledge retention database reports, engineering-reports, posters, technical presentations, user guides, SOPs, etc.

Responsibilities

• Acts as technical expert for all lab techniques and responsibilities
• Provides oversight for operation and maintenance of highly technical equipment
• Provides inputs to experiment design and execution for material properties and processes
• Develops methods, tools and techniques to improve processes in the lab
• Provides inputs to the writing of IDs and IPs
• Makes recommendations for purchasing new equipment, including identifying vendors, collecting quotes and tracking orders
• Troubleshoots process and equipment issues and oversees implementation of corrective actions
• Conducts day-to-day problem solving for research projects
• Tests feasibility of products
• Documents data, maintains lab books, writes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and reports
• Works with customers to understand their needs or requirements to run and test samples
• Accesses, analyzes and presents data at team meetings
• Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects
• Trains and coaches new personnel on equipment and processesMay be asked to participate in developing a new process or machine to improve the current process

Serves as technical expert in specialty area to support internal customers. Provides data and support to the scientists in experiment execution. Ensures the lab is in good working order. Acts as the technical expert for all lab techniques and responsibilities
