About the Role
To lead the CAD and sample development function, ensuring accurate pattern development,
efficient sample execution, fit consistency, and timely product approvals. The role will work
closely with Product Development, Merchandising, Sourcing, Quality, and Manufacturing teams
to ensure smooth transition from design concept to bulk production.
Key Responsibilities
A. CAD & Pattern Development
- Manage digital pattern making, grading, and marker development using Optitex CAD software.
- Develop and modify patterns for lingerie& intimate-wear products.
- Ensure pattern accuracy, fit consistency, measurement compliance, and fabric utilization.
- Prepare size grading, marker plans, and technical specifications as per approved standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve material consumption and minimize fabric wastage.
- Maintain updated CAD files, pattern libraries, measurement charts, and technical records.
B. Sample Development & Management
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor sample development activities according to product development timelines.
- Manage the complete sampling process, from initial prototype to fit samples, pre-production samples, and approved production samples.
- Ensure samples are developed as per design requirements, construction details, measurement specifications, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with pattern makers, sample tailors, Product Development, and Quality teams to resolve technical issues.
- Track sample status, approval comments, revisions, and submission deadlines.
- Ensure timely execution of customer samples and internal development samples.
- Work with Quality and Manufacturing teams to resolve fit, construction, bonding, and product performance issues.
- Work closely with Product Development, Sourcing, Quality, Production, and Merchandising teams to meet development milestones.
- Establish SOPs for pattern control, sample tracking, fit approvals, and revision management.
- Drive continuous improvement in sample-room efficiency, right-first-time development, and cost optimization.
C. Cutting Room Management
- Manage day-to-day cutting-room activities, ensuring timely feeding of cut components to the sewing and production lines.
- Plan and control cutting activities based on production plans, style requirements, order quantities, and material availability.
- Review and validate markers, patterns, lay plans, and fabric consumption before bulk cutting.
- Ensure fabric relaxation, spreading, lay preparation, cutting, bundling, numbering, and panel identification are carried out as per approved procedures and fabric requirements.
- Ensure correct fabric shade, lot, size, and panel matching to avoid mixing and quality issues.
- Monitor cutting accuracy, panel defects, fabric damage, end losses, and cutting wastage. Ensure cut components are inspected, counted, bundled, labelled, and transferred to the relevant production lines with proper documentation.
- Coordinate with Stores, Fabric Inspection, Planning, Quality, and Production teams to ensure material availability and uninterrupted production feeding.
- Monitor cutting-room manpower, machine utilization, productivity, and daily output against planned targets.
- Implement standard operating procedures for fabric handling, cutting, bundling, and material traceability.
- Identify and implement improvements in cutting efficiency, material utilization, and process control.
- Ensure proper housekeeping, safe working practices, and preventive maintenance of cutting equipment.
The ideal candidate should have:
- Minimum 58 years of relevant experience in CAD, pattern making, and sample development, preferably in lingerie or intimate wear.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, grading, fit analysis, measurement specifications, and fabric consumption.
