Salesforce Integration Architect
Role Summary Designs and governs the integration architecture connecting Salesforce with enterprise systems (ERP, middleware, third-party apps), ensuring secure, scalable, and maintainable data flow across the ecosystem — tool-agnostic (may or may not involve MuleSoft specifically).
Key Responsibilities
- Define enterprise integration strategy and patterns (real-time, batch, event-driven) between Salesforce and external systems
- Select appropriate integration approach per use case: REST/SOAP APIs, Platform Events, Change Data Capture, Bulk API, middleware (MuleSoft, Boomi, Dell Boomi, TIBCO)
- Architect solutions using Salesforce integration capabilities: Apex callouts, Named Credentials, External Services, Platform Events, Streaming API
- Design API management strategy — versioning, throttling, security (OAuth 2.0, JWT), and error handling/retry mechanisms
- Own end-to-end integration architecture documentation (sequence diagrams, data flow diagrams, interface control documents)
- Collaborate with enterprise architects to ensure alignment with overall IT landscape and API-led connectivity principles
- Define monitoring, logging, and alerting standards for integration health
- Conduct performance/load testing for integration touchpoints; troubleshoot production integration issues
- Guide governance for API reuse, avoiding point-to-point sprawl
Required Skills & Experience
- 10-15+ years in integration/enterprise architecture, 5+ years on Salesforce
- Strong grasp of Salesforce APIs (REST, SOAP, Bulk, Streaming, Platform Events)
- Experience with at least one enterprise middleware/iPaaS platform
- Solid understanding of authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth, SAML, JWT)
- Experience integrating Salesforce with ERPs (SAP, Oracle), marketing platforms, or custom systems
- Strong grasp of event-driven architecture and microservices concepts
Preferred Experience
- Experience with API-led connectivity / layered architecture (System, Process, Experience APIs)
- Exposure to Salesforce Data Cloud integrations, Heroku, or AWS/Azure integration services
Certifications
- Salesforce Certified Integration Architect
- Salesforce Certified System Architect
- Relevant middleware certification (e.g., MuleSoft, Boomi) is a plus
