Job summary

Exemed in India (Gujarat – Padra) is seeking an experienced EHS Leader to promote a Zero Injury Safety Culture, drive regulatory compliance, and oversee ISO 14001/45001 certifications. The role includes audits, incident investigations, CAPA implementation, contractor safety, and development of EHS policies and training.

You will lead safety coaching at site leadership levels, manage risk assessments, and advance process safety initiatives across API manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and sustain a Zero Injury Safety Culture by providing strong leadership, coaching, and guidance to site leadership, plant operations, and the safety committee.
  • Foster a proactive, lean safety culture focused on employee engagement, hazard identification, and safe work behaviors.
  • Act as a change agent to embed safety as a core operational value across all functions.
  • Ensure full compliance with State, local, and national EHS regulations, including statutory reporting and licensing requirements.
  • Maintain and manage ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System) certifications.
  • Lead internal and external audits and ensure closure of findings within defined timelines.
  • Provide daily EHS guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees to ensure consistent and effective implementation of EHS programs.
  • Develop, deploy, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and safe operating practices.
  • Develop and communicate EHS strategies, goals, and action plans aligned with business objectives.
  • Ensure timely investigation of all environmental, health, and safety incidents, including near misses.
  • Lead root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective and preventive action (CAPA) implementation.
  • Develop and audit loss prevention and corrective action plans to verify effectiveness.
  • Evaluate safety, health, and environmental risks for new and existing processes, equipment, and materials.
  • Ensure development, implementation, and periodic review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for defined tasks.
  • Support process safety initiatives relevant to API manufacturing, including chemical handling, hazardous reactions, and emergency preparedness.
  • Ensure contractor and third-party personnel comply with site EHS policies, statutory requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Implement contractor safety induction, monitoring, and performance evaluation systems.
  • Proactively plan and conduct EHS audits, inspections, and behavioral safety observations.
  • Track audit recommendations and drive timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Establish EHS performance indicators, dashboards, and scorecards to measure effectiveness.
  • Develop and deploy EHS training programs to meet regulatory, ISO, and operational requirements.
  • Ensure competency development of employees, supervisors, and contractors in safety-critical activities.
  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation, records, permits, and statutory registers.
  • Ensure document control systems comply with ISO and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and coordinate capital funding needs for EHS-related projects and improvements.
  • Ensure EHS expenditures meet approved budgets, timelines, and deliver intended safety outcomes.
