Job summary

Sarthee Consultancy is seeking an experienced EHS professional in India to oversee regulatory compliance, safety, and environmental management across site operations. You will lead audits, manage hazardous materials handling, and drive ongoing safety improvements while mentoring the EHS team.

The role requires leading investigations, enforcing SOPs, implementing health programs, and promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the plant environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of local, state and federal environmental and safety regulations.
• Experience leading audits, inspections and certifications (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Responsible Care).
• Ability to maintain documentation, permits and licenses for hazardous chemicals and emissions.
• Experience in incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Ability to monitor waste disposal, wastewater treatment, emissions and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Ensure regulatory compliance across site with local, state and federal rules.
• Lead audits, inspections and certification processes including ISO standards.
• Develop and implement site safety programs, SOPs and safe work practices.
• Oversee handling, storage and transport of hazardous chemicals with proper procedures.
• Lead emergency preparedness, drills and incident investigations.
• Drive environmental management including waste, water treatment and emissions reductions.
• Implement health programs including exposure monitoring and PPE compliance.
• Conduct hazard assessments (HAZOP, JSA, HIRA) and promote safety culture.
• Provide strategic EHS guidance to management and mentor the EHS team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Compliance & Regulatory Management

• Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.
  
• Lead audits, inspections, and certifications such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and Responsible Care.
  
• Maintain all mandatory documentation, permits, and licenses related to hazardous chemicals, waste management, and emissions.
  

2. Safety Management

• Develop and implement site-wide safety programs, SOPs, and safe work practices.
  
• Oversee incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous chemicals.
  
• Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including mock drills.
  

3. Environmental Management

• Monitor and manage waste disposal, wastewater treatment, emissions, and environmental impact reduction initiatives.
  
• Implement pollution prevention and resource optimization programs.
  
• Ensure proper operation and compliance of environmental control systems.
  

4. Occupational Health

• Implement and monitor occupational health programs including employee exposure monitoring, PPE compliance, and periodic medical checks.
  
• Oversee industrial hygiene assessments and maintain relevant health records.
  

5. Risk Assessment & Safety Culture

• Conduct hazard assessments (HAZOP, JSA, HIRA) and risk mitigation planning.
  
• Promote a safety-first culture through employee engagement, training, and awareness programs.
  
• Ensure contractor and visitor safety management.
  

6. Leadership & Strategy

• Provide strategic guidance to management on EHS risks and improvements.
  
• Lead and mentor the EHS team at the plant.
  
• Drive continuous improvement through periodic reviews and performance metrics.
