A roustabout isan entry-level general laborer on an oil and gas rig, responsible for diverse physical tasks like cleaning the deck, moving supplies, maintaining equipment, assisting with drilling operations, operating lifting gear (cranes/forklifts), and basic repairs, all while adhering strictly to safety protocols to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe rig functioning. They are essential to daily operations, performing demanding work in challenging environments, often with long shifts, and may live on-site for weeks at a time.

Key Responsibilities

Deck Site Maintenance: Cleaning, painting, organizing, and general housekeeping of the rig floor, pipe deck, and surrounding areas.

Material Handling: Loading, unloading, transporting, and storing equipment, pipes, and supplies using forklifts, cranes, and hand tools.

Equipment Support: Preparing equipment for use, assisting mechanics and electricians, inspecting pipes for leaks, and performing basic maintenance.

Drilling Support: Assisting senior crew (roughnecks, derrickmen) with tasks on the rig floor, mixing chemicals, and helping with operations.

Safety Emergency: Acting as a fire watch, responding to spills, and ensuring all work complies with strict safety regulations.
