Job summary

Nabors Industries in India is seeking a Service Technician I - JARS to assist in inspection, maintenance, and refurbishment of drilling jars and related downhole tools. You will work under guidance to perform routine workshop activities and gain hands-on training for progression to higher maintenance roles.

The role requires a Diploma or Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and internship/apprenticeship experience in mechanical workshops or related fields.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Internship or apprenticeship in mechanical workshops, manufacturing, or oil & gas is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of drilling tools, downhole equipment, or hydraulic systems.
  • Familiarity with workshop equipment and measuring tools.
  • Awareness of QMS and standard workshop practices.
  • Understanding of HSE regulations in industrial settings.
  • Willingness to undergo training and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in receiving, inspecting, and documenting drilling jars returned from field operations.
  • Perform cleaning of drilling jars and components using steam cleaning and wire brushing equipment.
  • Assist in draining, dismantling, and tagging tool components for inspection.
  • Support the assembly and disassembly of drilling jars following standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in replacing worn or damaged components under supervision.
  • Help fill tools with hydraulic oil and prepare them for pressure testing.
  • Support functional testing of drilling jars under supervision.
  • Prepare completed tools for painting, preservation, storage, and dispatch.
  • Perform basic maintenance of workshop tools and equipment.
  • Maintain workshop cleanliness and housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure all hand tools and equipment are cleaned and stored properly after use.
  • Assist with movement of tools and equipment within the workshop.
  • Operate overhead cranes and lifting equipment only after receiving required competency certification.
  • Support inventory organization and material handling activities.
  • Follow Nabors Quality Management System (QMS), operating procedures, and work instructions.
  • Assist with visual inspection of tool components.
  • Report damaged components, equipment defects, or quality concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Ensure maintenance records and job documentation are completed accurately.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Comply with all Nabors HSE policies, procedures, and Life Saving Rules.
  • Wear always required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and mandatory HSE training.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Participate in technical competency development and on-the-job training.
  • Learn Nabors maintenance procedures and best practices.
  • Perform additional workshop duties assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Support senior technicians during maintenance and testing activities.

The Service Technician I -JARS is an entry-level technical role responsible for assisting in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, testing, and refurbishment of drilling jars and related downhole tools. Working under the guidance of experienced technicians and supervisors, the incumbent performs routine workshop activities while adhering to Nabors' Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Quality, and Operational Standards. This role provides hands-on training and competency development, enabling the technician to build the technical skills required to progress to higher-level maintenance roles within the organization.
