Job summary

Solar Defence And Aerospace is seeking a Senior Engineer Robotics to lead the middleware layer of robotic systems using ROS 2. You will design high-level architectures, implement robust ROS 2 nodes and services, and integrate with external APIs and hardware interfaces.

A strong background in Python/C++, Linux, and robot simulations is required. You will mentor junior engineers, contribute to CI/CD practices, and ensure scalable, high-quality software for autonomous platforms.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with ROS 2 and middleware design.
• Hands-on ROS 2 development for robot software.
• Strong Python/C++ development skills and OO design principles.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement ROS 2-based software architecture for robots.
• Develop nodes, services, actions, publishers/subscribers in ROS 2.
• Integrate with 4g/5g, wifi, radio, and battery management interfaces.
• Mentor junior engineers and ensure code quality.
• Work with Gazebo/Ignition/Issac Sim for simulation.
• Debug and solve system-level problems on Linux robotics systems.

Description

As a senior Engineer Robotics, you will be responsible for implementing the middleware layer of different components of the Robot primarily using ROS. As a senior engineer you should be able to propose the high-level design, implementation approach and build the feature. You should have good exposure of ROS (preferably with version 2) and should have hands‑on experience of building Robots. You will also be responsible for implementing the integration with external gRPC/HTTP APIs. You should be a great problem solver and should have sound Computer science fundamentals.

Role & responsibilities

• Design and implement robust, scalable ROS 2-based software architecture for a robot
• Hands‑on in implementing nodes, services, actions, publishers/subscribers using ROS 2
• Experienced integrating with communications interfaces (4g/5g, wifi, Radio), Battery management system, Perception, locomotion modules
• Strong python/C++ development skills
• Strong in Object Oriented Design
• Hands on experience with Robotics simulation tools (Gazebo / Ignition / Issac Sim)
• Practical experience on Linux based Robotics Systems
• Great at debugging and system level problem solving skills
• Experienced working with databases like Redis, SQLite, PostgreSQL
• Keep a high bar on code quality and mentor the junior engineers
• Experienced with CI/CD and observability
