Job summary

JoVE is seeking a Review Editor to evaluate manuscript submissions for scientific rigor and visualization suitability. The role sits within the Editorial team, leveraging AI-assisted workflows to ensure efficient, high-quality decisions.

The ideal candidate holds a Masters/PhD in life sciences or engineering, with 3+ years in editorial review and excellent English communication. This on-site position offers exposure to cutting-edge AI-driven media production and a global publishing environment.

Qualifications

• Masters/PhD in life sciences, chemical sciences, or engineering.
• 3+ years editorial review experience
• Experience with submission-to-acceptance workflows
• Excellent English verbal and written communication
• Interest in AI-assisted automation
• Ability to meet tight deadlines
• Genuine interest in communicating scientific methods through visual media

Responsibilities

• Make final publication decisions by evaluating the scientific validity of submitted manuscripts and their suitability for visualizing the protocol
• Review new submissions to ensure that the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and our publication standards
• Apply prompt engineering techniques to validate reviewer reports for relevance, completeness, and alignment with journal standards
• Use AI tools, custom GPTs, and prompt-based workflows to perform pre-QC checks such as identifying formatting issues, missing sections, language clarity, and guideline adherence before peer review
• Accelerate article publication through close collaboration with the Production team to move accepted manuscripts efficiently through the production pipeline
• Ensure timely editorial workflows by coordinating with peer review and the editorial team to meet review and decision deadlines

Requirements:

• A Masters / Ph.D. in life sciences, chemical sciences, or engineering
• 3+ years of experience with editorial review and submission-to-acceptance workflows
• Prior experience in scientific publishing or peer review is preferred
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Strong scientific and technical vocabulary
• Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality content
• Willingness to learn and leverage automation/AI-assisted tools for efficiency
