Qualifications

• Minimum qualification of 12th pass with prior experiences of working with the LGBTQ+ community.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport and trust with participants.
• Knowledge of at least two languages is preferred (English and Hindi/Marathi/Assamese).
• Active listening skills and neutrality while conducting interviews to avoid influencing responses.
• Capacity to handle sensitive topics with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to meet daily and weekly data collection targets.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a field team under supervision.
• Willingness to travel to field sites and work flexible hours as required by the project.

Job description

Background: The Humsafar Trust (HST) is India’s first community-based organization (CBO) of and for LGBTQ+ individuals that started in April 1994. HST has been conducting multiple research studies focusing on developing strategy to reach out to LGBTQ+ community using social media, feasibility and acceptability of new HIV prevention technologies, pilot-testing culturally relevant health care providers (HCP)-focused intervention to reduce HIV/STI-related stigma and discrimination towards transfeminine people and community-based randomized control trial to address the unique psychosocial and health needs of the LGBTQ+ community.

Project description: We are looking for research interviewers under Project CARET: Consortium for Advancing LGBTQ+ Health Research, Policy Engagement & Training. Under this project, HST is conducting a large-scale, national-level hybrid survey, ‘The Rainbow Health Survey’, on LGBTQ+ health status, health care access and social determinants.

Survey Objectives

• To determine the prevalence of physical and mental health conditions among diverse LGBTQ+ subpopulations in India
• To examine the associations between social determinants and health outcomes among LGBTQ+ individuals
• To assess healthcare access, utilization patterns, and unmet health needs of LGBTQ+ people
• To identify proactive factors and resilience resources that may mitigate negative health outcome in LGBTQ+ populations

Responsibilities

• Understand the study objectives, questionnaire content, and interview protocols to identify eligible participants
• Obtain informed consent ethically – written, verbal, as applicable after explaining the purpose of the study including interview process and confidentiality concerns
• Conduct face to face, telephonic or online interviews in a professional, non-judgemental, and empathetic manner that is appropriate for the LGBTQ+ community
• Ensure privacy and comfort of the study participant
• Record responses accurately using electronic mode of data collection device (tablet/laptop)
• Ensure data completeness and accuracy of the data collected
• Adhere strictly to data privacy and other ethical consideration related to the study
• Sensitive to participant emotions, trauma, or discomfort — and able to pause or discontinue if needed

Duration:

The recruitment is purely on contract basis for the duration of field survey
