You will track the Indian startup ecosystem, verify funding and valuations, and translate data into actionable intelligence for editorial teams, with a focus on data mining and database management. The role requires curiosity, precision, and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years in market intelligence, financial research, data analytics.
• Deep passion for the Indian startup landscape and active industry followership.
• Comfort reading financial statements and understanding equity and corporate filings.
• Proficient in AI-enabled tools and Excel/Sheets; familiarity with Python/data scraping is a plus.

We are looking for a highly analytical and curious Research Associate to join our research team. In this role, you will be the backbone of our data operations, ensuring the accuracy and depth of Inc42's proprietary research products.

You will track the pulse of the Indian startup ecosystem—from early-stage funding rounds to massive IPOs—and translate raw data into actionable intelligence for our readers, subscribers, and editorial teams.

What You'll Do

• Data & Research Product Support: Play a crucial role in building Inc42's data and research products, directly supporting the creation of industry-defining reports, long-form articles, and data-driven journalism.
• Primary & Secondary Research: Assist in structuring surveys, questionnaires, and research methodologies to gather fresh ecosystem insights, alongside verifying funding, acquisition, and valuation data.
• Financial Data Mining: Navigate the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) website to extract and analyse financial data from statutory filings (e.g., MGT-14, AOC-4, DIR-12, MGT-7). Working knowledge of Crunchbase.
• Database Management: Expand data pipelines and maintain Inc42's core tagging framework, classifying companies and investors to keep our intelligence databases pristine.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the data engine for the editorial, marketing, and product teams, fulfilling recurring intelligence requests to support our daily content and deep-dive publications.
• Trend Identification: Track IPOs, the market performance of listed tech companies, and new venture capital fund launches.
• Insight Generation: Propose data-backed ideas for engaging editorial content, such as uncovering shareholding patterns, identifying emerging startup founders, or mapping sector-specific financial trends.

Who You Are

• Experience: 1 to 3 years in market intelligence, financial research, data analytics, or a related field.
• Ecosystem Knowledge: You have a deep passion for the Indian startup landscape and actively follow industry shifts, major players, and venture capital trends. An avid reader of news related to technology and Indian startups.
• Financial Acumen: You are comfortable reading financial statements and understand the basics of company structures, equity, and corporate filings.
• Technical Chops: Highly proficient in using modern AI-enabled tools and general purpose LLMs. Also should be proficient in Excel/Google Sheets. Familiarity with Python, data scraping tools, or automated data extraction methods is a strong advantage.
• Detail-Oriented: You have a critical eye for data accuracy, a logical approach to problem-solving, and a profound respect for numbers.
• Fast-Paced: You thrive in a high-energy new-age media environment and possess the time management skills to balance long-term research reports with ad-hoc daily article support.
