Job summary

Inc42 Media is seeking an Editor/Rewriter to lead and refine long-form and feature journalism for India's leading startup media platform. You will mentor reporters, guide the filing process from idea to final draft, and contribute to shaping daily editorial agendas with a team of reporters and editors.

You will oversee quality control, fact-checking, and innovative storytelling formats, ensuring high standards while mentoring staff to develop exclusive stories and deepen coverage of technology

Qualifications

• 5+ years in startup/tech/business/economy reporting or editing.
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Journalism/Mass Communication/English or Engineering or equivalent.
• Excellent command of English with strong writing and editing abilities.

Responsibilities

• Edit long-form and feature stories and guide reporters from idea to final draft.
• Rewrite to add value where gaps exist using network and context.
• Collaborate with senior editors on daily/weekly/monthly rosters.
• Monitor feeds to identify trends shaping editorial agenda.

What You'll Do

• Editing Long-Form And Feature Stories: Take the lead in shaping and editing stories that reporters file. You would be needed to guide the reporter throughout the filing process from idea to final draft
• Editing Long-Form And Feature Stories: Besides this, you will have to step in to rewrite if the reporter has left some gaps in the original draft or add more value to an existing copy based on your network, sources and broader context of the industry that may have been missed
• Editorial Planning: Collaborate with senior editors to craft daily, weekly, and monthly rosters for the news team.
• Trendspotting: Monitor feeds and identify trends to shape the day's editorial news agenda.
• Quality Control: Edit, validate, and fact-check stories to ensure they meet our rigorous standards.
• Team Development: Train your team to break exclusive stories, dive deep into subjects, and conduct insightful interviews.
• Innovation: Brainstorm new story formats, series, and themes to keep our content fresh and engaging.
• Team Well-being: Ensure roster optimisation and maintain a happy, high-performing team.

What Are We Looking For

• Experience: 5+ years in startup/tech/business/economy reporting or editing.
• Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Journalism/Mass Communication/English in Honours/Engineering or equivalent.
• Tech Savvy: Strong interest in and understanding of technology, the startup ecosystem, and the business landscape.
• Global Awareness: Familiar with global developments in the world of tech, digital, and startup trends.
• Language Skills: Excellent command of English, with strong writing and editing abilities.
• Journalistic Integrity: Strong grasp of news reporting basics and structures.
• Market Insight: The ability to understand the tech landscape and foresee upcoming trends.
• Stock Market Knowledge: Familiarity with capital markets, investor sentiment, and how they intersect with the startup and tech ecosystem.
