Citi's Risk Management organization in Mumbai is seeking a high-caliber professional for the Remedial Management, Vice President role. You will provide independent valuation and financial analysis for stressed exposures, supporting restructuring, recovery, refinancing and exit strategies.

You will work with internal and external stakeholders, develop robust valuation reports, and contribute to process improvements within Remedial Management.

Qualifications

  • 8-13 years of relevant experience in credit analysis, corporate restructuring, distressed debt, or special assets.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements, business plans and cash flows across industries.
  • Experience with valuation methodologies including DCF and multiples.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed valuations of distressed assets including corporate entities and collateral.
  • Develop and maintain financial models using DCF, liquidation, and market-based methods.
  • Perform scenario analysis and stress testing for restructuring and enforcement strategies.
  • Evaluate borrower business plans, cash flow forecasts and turnaround strategies.
  • Monitor collateral values and borrower circumstances to inform recovery decisions.
  • Prepare valuation reports for credit committees and senior management.
  • Support enforcement strategies and asset disposals when needed.

The Special Assets Valuations Senior Analyst (VP) is responsible for providing independent valuation and financial analysis support for the Bank’s portfolio of stressed and distressed exposures. The role supports strategic decision-making related to restructuring, recovery, refinancing, enforcement, and exit strategies by assessing the value of underlying collateral, businesses, and loan cash flows.

Working closely with Special Assets Transactors, Internal / External stakeholder, the senior analyst will independently evaluate complex credit situations and provide recommendations that optimize recovery outcomes while ensuring compliance with the Bank’s risk management framework.

In this role, you're expected to:
Credit Analysis & Portfolio Management
  • Conduct detailed valuations of distressed assets, including corporate entities, commercial real estate, and other forms of collateral supporting non-performing loans
  • Develop and maintain financial models using discounted cash flow (DCF), liquidation, and market-based valuation methodologies
  • Perform scenario analysis and stress testing to assess recovery prospects under various restructuring and enforcement strategies
  • Evaluate borrower business plans, cash flow forecasts, and turnaround strategies to determine viability and repayment capacity
  • Analyze financial statements, management accounts, and industry trends to identify key valuation drivers and risks
Credit Recovery and Remedial Management Support
  • Assess collateral coverage, recovery values, and potential loss estimates to support provisioning and impairment decisions
  • Prepare valuation reports and recommendations for internal credit committees, senior management, and regulatory reviews
  • Closely monitor performance of portfolio accounts and identify changes in collateral values or borrower circumstances that may impact recovery outcomes
  • Assist with enforcement strategies, asset disposals, and insolvency proceedings, where required
  • Contribute to the development of new analytical techniques, workflow enhancements, and process improvements within the Remedial Management function
Stakeholder Management & Governance
  • Liaise with SA transactors, Credit Risk Managers, Legal, and Finance teams to ensure a coordinated approach to problem-credit management
  • Present valuation findings and recovery recommendations to senior stakeholders and governance committees
  • Ensure all valuations comply with the Bank’s internal policies, regulatory standards, and accounting requirements
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation supporting valuation assumptions, methodologies, and recommendations
  • Support on ad hoc projects and take on initiatives to streamline and enhance the VCAT BAU processes and valuation framework
  • Independently support internal audits, regulatory reviews, and model validation exercises
As a successful candidate, you'd ideally have the following skills and exposure:
  • Experience: 8-13 years of relevant experience in credit analysis, corporate restructuring, distressed debt, special assets, or corporate/investment banking.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate financial statements, corporate business plans, and cash flows across a diverse range of industrial sectors.
  • Hands-on experience with corporate valuation methodologies, including Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) and relative valuation (multiples) techniques.
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to negotiate, influence decisions, and build relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously with high accountability, while also collaborating effectively as a proactive team player.
Education:
  • Chartered Accountant (CA), Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or an equivalent advanced professional degree.
Preferred:
  • Experience working on valuations of distressed debt, restructuring transactions, or insolvency cases is highly desirable.
