AVP, Business Intelligence Sr Analyst - Markets Operations BI (Pune)

Citi Market Operations is undergoing a significant, multi-year transformation, implementing a cutting-edge target operating model. We are a dynamic, global organization operating in over 60 countries, covering all post-execution Operations teams including Middle Office, Settlements, Margin, Asset Servicing, and Listed Derivative & Commodities Operations. We support an extensive range of Capital Markets products, where Citi is consistently a dominant player. This is a large and complex undertaking, focused on risk and controls, regulatory compliance, process re-engineering, automation, people and culture, data transformation, technology investment, and client service.

The Team: Markets Operations Business Intelligence (BI)

The Markets Operations Business Intelligence (BI) team is at the forefront of this transformation. We partner with various Operations teams to deliver critical insights into the health of our operational processes. Utilizing a data-driven approach, we identify areas for improvement and ensure that our investments are strategically targeted to achieve maximum efficiency and impact across our global operations.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an inquisitive and curious Business Intelligence Sr Analyst (AVP level) to join our Markets Operations BI team in Pune. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence the future of Citi's Markets Operations by implementing innovative data analytics and dashboarding solutions. You will empower our Operations teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of their processes, identify friction points, mitigate risks, and enhance client service. While strong BI skills are essential, success in this role hinges on a deep, proactive engagement with business processes. We are looking for an individual who is driven to ask critical questions, challenge existing methods, and relentlessly pursue inefficiencies, rather than passively waiting for problems to be presented.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Partnership: Collaborate closely with Market Operations management and technology partners to define and execute the analytics agenda, prioritizing high-value use cases that align with strategic objectives.
• Proactive Problem Identification & Analysis: Beyond assessing known bottlenecks, you will proactively deep-dive into operational processes, using data and insightful questioning (e.g., "why is this done this way?", "what is the purpose of this step?") to identify underlying challenges and systemic inefficiencies. Leverage data to substantiate and support evaluations and recommendations for process health improvements.
• Data-Driven Hypothesis Testing: Conduct in-depth statistical analysis using business data to prove or disprove hypotheses related to process friction, risk exposure, and client behavior.
• Actionable Insights: Produce detailed analyses of complex issues, recommending clear courses of action even when solutions are not immediately evident, and support their implementation.
• Solution Development: Design, develop, and implement robust data analytics and dashboarding solutions that provide clear, actionable insights into operational performance and efficiency.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong, effective working relationships with Operations stakeholders at all levels, conducting interviews to deeply understand business functions, pain points, and risks from the user’s perspective.
• Program Management: Contribute to the delivery and management of technical data programs across multiple businesses and geographies.
• Change Leadership: Drive change within a collaborative, agile team environment and adapt to unexpected requirement changes and tight deadlines.

What You Will Bring:

Technical Expertise:

• Advanced SQL: Strong experience with SQL and relational databases for complex data querying and manipulation.
• BI Visualization: Proven experience creating effective and sophisticated dashboards using major BI visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Qlikview).
• Data Storytelling: Ability to effectively query and join disparate large datasets, perform complex analysis, and translate findings into compelling narratives and actionable solutions.
• ETL/Data Prep (Plus): Experience with ETL solutions such as Alteryx, Tableau Prep, or PowerQuery.
• Programming (Plus): Experience with Python, R, or PySpark for advanced analytics.

Professional Attributes:

• Minimum 5-8 years of experience in data science, data analytics role preferably in financial services or capital markets domain
• Proactive Business Acumen & Inquisitiveness: Extremely inquisitive, curious, and possess strong critical thinking skills. A genuine drive to deeply understand underlying business functions, friction points, and risks by asking challenging questions (e.g., "why is this process necessary?", "what value does this step add?"). • Communication & Influence: Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with excellent client servicing and presentation abilities. Able to clearly articulate complex insights and influence stakeholders towards data-driven decisions.
• Collaboration & Leadership: Strong ability to establish, build, and maintain effective working relationships across diverse teams, including the ability to coach and mentor.
• Results-Oriented: Proven ability to work independently as well as part of virtual teams to deliver strategic outcomes, managing tight deadlines and adapting to evolving requirements.

Education:

• Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative or technical field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering.
