Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, R&D delivery or product engineering, with leadership of software teams in industrial domains.
• Proven people management including performance, coaching and career development.
• End-to-end ownership of software delivery, from planning to release governance.
• Strong hands-on technical background in C#/.NET, microservices, APIs, Docker and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience with Azure or comparable cloud platforms and DevOps pipelines.

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this role, we are looking for an experienced R&D Manager / People Manager to lead a Digital R&D product pillar or capability team end to end. The role is accountable for people leadership, delivery predictability and technical direction, acting as the single accountable leader for engineering outcomes across quality, speed, security and business relevance.

This is a hands‑on senior management role requiring strong technical credibility and the ability to review architecture and code‑level trade‑offs, guide .NET, Kubernetes and cloud‑native engineering, and lead Agile execution across globally distributed teams. The successful candidate will work closely with product, architecture, program, release, operations and business stakeholders to translate priorities into scalable and reliable engineering outcomes.

You will be mainly accountable for

• Lead people and engineering delivery by managing and developing a high‑performing R&D team, setting clear objectives, allocating work, providing feedback and career development, and ensuring delivery outcomes across scope, milestones, quality, risks, dependencies and stakeholder commitments.
• Drive predictable Agile execution and stakeholder alignment by translating product roadmaps into executable sprint and release plans, managing capacity and dependencies, leading Agile/Scaled Agile ceremonies, tracking delivery health through tools such as Azure DevOps/GitHub, and communicating risks and progress transparently.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership across cloud‑native and industrial software, including C#/.NET, microservices, APIs, containers, Kubernetes, Agentic AI, cloud platforms, observability, performance and security. Guide architecture decisions, technical roadmaps, technical debt, DevOps practices, CI/CD, automated testing and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Act as the captain of the ship for the product area, creating clarity in ambiguity, removing impediments, driving decisions to closure and connecting product intent, industrial customer needs, data flows and platform architecture. Collaborate across global ABB teams and external stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable and maintainable solutions aligned with business priorities.

Qualifications For The Role

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, R&D delivery or product engineering, with proven experience leading software teams in industrial software, process automation, energy, Asset Performance Management or related domains.
• Proven people management and leadership experience, including performance management, coaching, career development, staffing, succession planning and building high‑performing engineering teams.
• Demonstrated end‑to‑end ownership of software delivery, including planning, execution, quality, release management, risk and dependency management, stakeholder communication and delivery governance.
• Strong hands‑on technical background in C#/.NET, microservices, APIs, Docker, Kubernetes and cloud‑native architecture, with exposure to Generative AI, Agentic AI, LLMs, RAG, MCP and relevant open‑source technologies.
• Experience with Azure or comparable cloud platforms, DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, infrastructure‑as‑code, reliability and security practices.
• Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum and scaled Agile practices, with experience managing multi‑team delivery and working effectively with globally distributed, cross‑functional and external stakeholders.
• BE/BTech/ME/MTech in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, with strong communication and leadership skills, an ownership mindset, ability to create clarity in ambiguity, and demonstrated experience in IoT, industrial data, edge computing, process automation or related industrial technology domains.
