Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Vadodara seeks an experienced R&D Structural Engineer to join the Global Multi-Physics Simulation network. You will conduct structural, thermomechanical, and acoustic analyses for Dry, Traction, and Distribution Transformers, developing new technologies and supporting global engineering teams.

You will lead FE simulations, automate assessments, run feasibility studies, organize prototyping, and help transfer knowledge to design tools; strong English and project management

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in mechanical or aerospace engineering
• Advanced knowledge of structures under seismic, fatigue, shock and thermal loads
• Experience in finite element analysis using ANSYS
• Proficient in Python programming
• Experience with structural testing and sensors (strain gauges, load cells, accelerometers)
• Strong project management skills
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)

Responsibilities

• Perform FEM simulations of structures under static and dynamic loads (fatigue, impulsive, seismic).
• Develop automations for structural, thermomechanical and acoustic assessment.
• Run feasibility studies and design new products; simulate performance.
• Organize prototyping and testing to validate new technologies/products.
• Lead product/technology development projects for Dry, Traction and Oil Distribution Transformers, on time and budget.
• Support knowledge transfer from R&D to engineering by writing design rules and trainings.
• Provide technical support to other departments as needed.

The opportunity

As R&D Structural Engineer, you will join our Global Multi-Physics Simulation (GLOMUS) network team in the Technology Center of HITACHI-Energy. You will be part of a group of key people with specific expertise in the fields of electrical, structural, acoustic, thermo-mechanic and fluid-dynamics analyses, simulation and testing. As part of our global R&D community including Technology Centers and Research Centers worldwide, you will contribute to support all factories in the PG Dry, Traction and Distribution Transformers on innovative and challenging research projects. You will focus on developing new technologies and products, optimizing existing ones and on supporting different engineering offices around the world.

How you’ll make an impact

• Finite Element simulation of structures subject to all types of static and dynamic loads (fatigue, impulsive, short-circuit, seismic, etc.)

• Develop new automations for the structural, thermomechanical and acoustic assessment of products

• Run feasibility studies, develop new technical concepts, design new products and simulate their expected performances

• Organize prototyping and testing activities to validate new technologies/products

• Lead product and technology development projects in the field of Dry, Traction and Oil Distribution Transformer, delivering results on time and on budget at agreed scope and quality

• Support the transfer of technology and knowledge from R&D to engineering department by writing design rules, preparing trainings and collaborating with design tools team

• Provide technical support to other departments when needed (engineering, product management, marketing and sales etc.)

Your background

• PhD / Masters education in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering field

• Advanced knowledge of structures subject to structural loads such as seismic, fatigue, shock and thermal

• Experience in the finite element analysis and in the use of the ANSYS software

• Knowledge of the following programming languages such as Python

• Solid bases in vibrational fatigue and dynamics

• Experience in structural testing and use of sensors such as strain gauges, load cells and accelerometers

• Project management skills

• Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required
