Job summary

Hitachi Energy seeks an Entry Professional (P1) in R&D to drive high voltage Instrument Transformer design and development. You will contribute to the conception, analysis, and optimization of HV switchgear, with hands-on CAD/FEA work and cross-functional collaboration.

You will lead design reviews, perform mechanical calculations, and support prototype testing while ensuring compliance with global standards. Fluency in English is required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.Tech/M.Tech).
  • 5–10+ years in high voltage switchgear design and development.
  • HV Instrument Transformer product knowledge.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD/PLM tools (Creo, Windchill, Ansys).
  • Experience with FEA electrical simulations, drawing/BOM/GD&T analysis.
  • Knowledge of product change management and design reviews (DFMEA/DFM/DFA).
  • Ability to work in a global environment and conduct root-cause analyses.
  • Strong communication in English (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

  • Assume an R&D engineering role in design and development of high voltage Instrument Transformer products.
  • Lead with a collaborative, analytical mindset to deliver reliable, cost-efficient solutions.
  • Design CTs and CVTs for HV applications and perform calculations and testing support.
  • Conduct DFMEA/DFM/ DFA reviews and prepare development documents.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on product failures and provide feedback to management.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE/ANSI/IS/ISO/DIN/NEMA standards and global regulations.

The Opportunity

Identification, exploration and implementation of technology / product development and growth strategies to enhance and secure global positioning. Ensure project execution, foster innovation and develop and secure R&D capabilities in the business for profitability. Devising research methods, focus on future technical direction, future scenarios in transforming technology landscape. Preparing technical specifications and specifying laboratory test equipment and processes. Making recommendations concerning acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials within budgets and targets set. May participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications. Coordinating pilot-plant or initial production runs on new products or processes. An Entry Professional (P1) applies broad theoretical job knowledge typically obtained through advanced education. May require the following proficiency: Work is closely supervised. Problems faced are not typically difficult or complex. Explains facts, policies and practices related to job area.

How you’ll make an impact
  • You will assume a R&D engineering role in the design & development of high voltage Instrument Transformer products. You shall be able to demonstrate a strong electro-mechanical design & development background combined with excellent analytical and project management skills and hands-on experience with state-of-the-art design techniques.
  • On the personal side, we are looking for someone with a technical background and knowledge of High Voltage products (Instrument Transformer), someone that can lead with a positive mindset, analytical capabilities, and a strong drive for collaboration with teams and stakeholders to build the best possible product.
  • Design of CTs and CVTs for high voltage applications.
  • Plan, perform and review mechanical calculation/simulations and support mechanical testing.
  • Participate constructively in working teams, share own technical/scientific knowledge in own projects and supports colleagues in applying processes and tools to ensure timely and high-quality results.
  • Shows solid documentation skills and writes technical reports, project, and product documents independently, including doing feasibility studies as baseline for decision making.
  • Conduct quality case root cause analysis with solid electro-mechanical knowledge.
  • Product harmonization, upgrades, and maintenance of HV switchgear products and solutions with high reliability and cost efficiency.
  • Conduct design reviews, including DFMEA/DFM/DFA, perform prototyping & testing of disconnectors. Prepare design documentation (Development report, analysis report, assembly & test instruction, test specification, etc.).
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background
  • Degree (B. Tech. / M. Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5-10 years+ of experience in high voltage switchgear design and development.
  • Product knowledge of HV Instrument Transformer
  • Hands-on experience with 3D model/PLM tools like Creo, Windchill, Ansys.
  • Background and experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Hands-on experience in FEA tools - electrical simulation tools.
  • Excellent hands-on experience in drawing, BOM, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Knowledge of product change management process.
  • Design & development of high voltage switchgear
  • Leadership skills with a proven track-record of Management or Project management.
  • Confidence to conduct Root-Cause-Analyses on product failures and to provide feedback to higher Management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various IEC / IEEE / ANSI / IS / ISO / DIN / IP / NEMA standards.
  • Ability to work in a global environment
