Job summary

HITACHI ENERGY TECHNOLOGY SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED in Bengaluru seeks an experienced engineer to drive cost reduction across power conversion products. You will lead design-to-cost studies, evaluate components, and build business cases to deliver efficient, reliable solutions.

You will analyze converter architectures, review BOMs for high-cost drivers, and collaborate with design, sourcing, and manufacturing teams to realize scalable cost improvements while maintaining quality and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in power electronics product development, industrialization, manufacturing engineering, or value engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, inverters, energy storage systems, and industrial power conversion systems.
  • Hands-on experience with power semiconductors such as IGBT, MOSFET, and SiC devices, together with magnetics, capacitors, PCB assemblies, and thermal management systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and product cost drivers.
  • Experience conducting technical trade-off analyses between cost, reliability, and performance.

The opportunity

Join our global R&D team developing next-generation power conversion and energy systems, and help improve product competitiveness by reducing product cost while maintaining performance, quality, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance. You will work in a cross-functional environment alongside design engineering, supply chain, sourcing, manufacturing, industrialization, quality, and suppliers to drive sustainable cost optimization across the product lifecycle.

In this role, you will identify, evaluate, and implement cost reduction opportunities across electrical, power electronic, and electromechanical assemblies. You will analyze converter architectures and bills of materials to find high-cost drivers, lead technical evaluations of alternative components and technologies, quantify savings potential, and build the business cases that turn opportunities into implemented change.

  • Participate in supplier technical reviews and cost workshops, and evaluate supplier proposals from technical, reliability, and performance perspectives.
  • Define validation plans for cost-reduction changes and support prototype testing and qualification activities.
  • Analyze risks associated with component substitutions and design modifications, and ensure compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with product development, manufacturing engineering, industrialization, supply chain, procurement, quality, and service organizations, and provide technical recommendations to product management and engineering leadership.
  • Develop cost-out roadmaps for strategic product families, and establish cost benchmarking methods and competitive product analysis.
  • Contribute to design guidelines that improve product cost efficiency in future platforms.

Your background
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in power electronics product development, industrialization, manufacturing engineering, or value engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, inverters, energy storage systems, and industrial power conversion systems.

Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in value engineering or design-to-cost programs, including cost modeling and should-cost analysis.
  • Experience supporting supplier qualification and localization initiatives.
  • Understanding of industrial and grid-connected power conversion applications.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering and component lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle management and ERP systems, and exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
