Job summary

Hitachi Energy Technology Services Private Limited in Chennai is seeking an engineer to perform functional type testing of AC protection for HVDC stations, using secondary injection kits and real-time simulation, and to obtain external laboratory certification.

You will develop test cases with EMT tools for HVDC control and protection, create automated testing solutions for AC protection, and contribute to lab setup and ongoing HVDC R&D projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Master Power Systems.
• Experience in testing and commissioning of substation control and protection systems.
• Knowledge of HV/LV substations schematics and protection concepts.
• Experience with IEC61850, MODBUS and secondary injection testing.

The opportunity:

You will be responsible for Functional type testing of AC protection functions for the HVDC stations as per the IEC standards using secondary injection kits and real time simulation environment and getting the certification done by the authorized external laboratories.

How you’ll make an impact:

• To support global R&D projects with the implementation and verification of the latest technology development using the Hardware in loop environment of latest development studies. Setting up and maintaining the lab environment for the different HVDC R&D projects.

• You will be developing control and protection solutions encompassing full development cycle (design to delivery) for the future HVDC technologies, ongoing HVDC projects and other business units.

• You will be developing test cases using EMT tools for the testing of HVDC control and protection functions in the virtual environment and automated test solutions for the AC protection functions for the HVDC projects.

• You will be developing virtual unit testing solutions for the HVDC protection functions.

• To supporting projects in resolving issues related to protection functions.

• To perform pre studies for the proposed control and protection ideas using EMT tools and identifying the right solutions. Suggest new improvements, which really aid our business related to control and protection functions.

Your Background:

• Required bachelor’s degree in electrical & Electronics Engineering or Master Power Systems with minimum 2 to 8 years of experience.

• Knowledge in Testing and commissioning of substation control and protection system.

• Should understand different control and protection schematics of a HV/LV electrical substation.

• Any experience in an area of power system design and engineering is also welcome to apply for this role.

• Basic knowledge about communication protocols like IEC61850, MODBUS etc. Should have experience in using secondary test kits like Omicron, Doble etc.

• Knowledge of PSCAD, MATLAB, or any other simulation software available for electric power system and control system and RTDS, Hyper Sim, or any other electric power system simulators is an added advantage.

• Knowledge about HVDC control and protection system will be considered as a plus.

• Experience with protection test case automation using scripts is an added advantage.
