Job Title: Quality Control (QC) Supervisor/In Charge Transformer Division
Department: Quality Assurance & Control
Reports To: Quality Manager / Plant Head
Supervises: Junior QC Engineers (Small Team)
Job Summary
The Quality Control Supervisor will oversee the daily in-process and final inspection lines for small single-phase, small three-phase, and high-frequency ferrite core transformers. You will lead a small team of Junior QC Engineers, ensuring that manufacturing processes align with corporate standards, customer requirements, and regulatory benchmarks. Your primary focus will be minimizing defects, maintaining test equipment calibration, and coaching junior staff on technical testing protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of a small team of Junior QC Engineers.
- Train and coach junior staff on advanced transformer testing methods, safety procedures, and defect identification.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide technical guidance to foster career growth within the QC team.
- In-Process Inspection Supervision
- Monitor winding accuracy, layer insulation, core assembly, and soldering/termination processes across the production lines.
- Audit compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and engineering drawings to prevent defects before encapsulation or final assembly.
- Oversee testing parameters.
- Final Inspection & Testing Verification
- Validate routine final tests conducted by Junior Engineers, ensuring complete accuracy of data.
- Review critical performance checks, including:
- Turns Ratio, Polarity, and Phase Displacement
- Winding Resistance and Insulation Resistance (Megger testing)
- Dielectric Strength (Hi-Pot testing) and Core Loss/No-Load testing
- Inductance, Leakage Inductance, and Quality Factor (Q) for high-frequency units using LCR meters
- Authorize product release or initiate quarantine protocols for non-conforming batches.
- Corrective Actions & Process Improvement
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using methodologies like 5-Why or Fishbone diagrams when defects occur.
- Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) and collaborate with production and design teams to implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Track quality metrics (e.g., First Pass Yield, Scrap Rate) to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Equipment & Documentation Management
- Maintain and calibrate specialized QC testing equipment (LCR meters, transformer ratiometers, Hi-Pot testers, and power analyzers).
- Review and approve daily paperwork, test certificates, and compliance logs prepared by junior engineers.
Role Specifications & Qualifications
Education & Experience
Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
3 to 5 years of QC experience in transformer manufacturing, with at least 1 2 years in a senior or supervisory capacity.
Technical Skills & Core Competencies
- Transformer Expertise: Strong background in magnetic components, including lamination steel cores (single/three-phase) and high-frequency ferrite cores.
- Testing Instruments: Mastery of LCR meters, digital oscilloscopes, Hi-Pot testers, and automated transformer test benches.
- Standards & Systems: Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and relevant industry standards (e.g., IEC or UL benchmarks for transformers).
- Soft Skills: Direct, constructive communication style paired with strong problem-solving capabilities under tight production timelines.
