We are seeking an experienced and authoritative Head of Testing to lead and manage our transformer test department. In this critical leadership role, you will oversee all shop-floor testing operations for power transformers rated up to 160 MVA and 220 kV class.
You will be responsible for ensuring that all transformers manufactured strictly conform to international/National standard specifications (IEC, IEEE/ANSI, IS), customer design specifications, and internal quality benchmarks prior to dispatch.
Oversee and direct routine, type, and special testing on power transformers up to 160 MVA, 220 kV (including OLTC, Bushings, and accessories).
Manage high-voltage test lab operations, including Impulse Voltage Testing, Partial Discharge (PD) measurement, Frequency Response Analysis (FRA), Dissipation Factor (Tan ), and Temperature Rise tests.
Ensure optimal utilization, calibration, safety, and maintenance of high-voltage testing equipment and instruments.
Third Party Testing such as at CPRI, ERDA, NTH, etc.
Interpret customer technical specifications, GTP (Guaranteed Technical Parameters), and national/international standards (IEC 60076, IS 2026, IEEE C57 series) to establish test protocols.
Validate and approve official factory test reports, diagnostic records, and quality certificates.
Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) for test failures, unexpected losses, or insulation anomalies, working closely with the Design and Production teams to implement CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).
Host and represent the organization during Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with third-party inspectors, state utilities, and international clients.
Technical presentation and defense of test results during client witness inspections.
Lead, mentor, and train a team of test engineers, technicians, and safety personnel.
Enforce strict High Voltage Electrical Safety Protocols and ISO 9001 / ISO 17025 (Lab Accreditation) standards across the testing facility.
Drive digital transformation in data acquisition, report automation, and predictive diagnostic testing methods.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.E. / B.Tech.) in Electrical Engineering. Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience: 10+ years of core experience in high-voltage transformer testing, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership/head role.
Domain Expertise: Hands-on expertise with power transformers above 100 MVA and 132/220 kV class.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of transformer insulation design, magnetic circuit behavior, oil dielectric analysis, and surge phenomena.
Standards: In-depth knowledge of IEC 60076, IS 2026, and IEEE C57 testing guidelines.
Diagnostic Skills: Advanced proficiency in Partial Discharge location, SFRA analysis, DGA (Dissolved Gas Analysis) interpretation, and Insulation Resistance/Tan diagnostics.
Safety & Standards: Thorough knowledge of High-Voltage safety practices (EHS/OSHA guidelines for HV labs).
