We are looking for an experienced Quality Engineer with strong practical knowledge of quality inspection and testing of fabricated industrial machinery, sheet metal components, welded assemblies and mechanical equipment.
The candidate should have hands-on experience in welding inspection, Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT), hydrostatic pressure testing, dimensional inspection, material grade verification and final inspection of fabricated equipment.
Candidates with experience in industrial machinery, process equipment, pressure-containing components, fabrication, material handling equipment and mechanical engineering manufacturing are preferred.
Role & Responsibilities
1. Welding & Fabrication Quality
- Inspect welding and fabrication activities as per approved drawings, specifications and applicable quality requirements.
- Perform or coordinate Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT) on welds and components wherever specified.
- Check weld quality, weld dimensions, surface defects, undercut, cracks, porosity and other visible discontinuities.
- Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications and welding consumables against project requirements, where applicable.
- Coordinate additional non-destructive testing (NDT), such as Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT) or Ultrasonic Testing (UT), when specified.
- Inspect fabricated structures, frames, tanks, shafts, flanges, supports and mechanical assemblies.
2. Hydrostatic & Functional Testing
- Plan and perform hydrostatic pressure tests on tanks, piping, vessels or other equipment where applicable.
- Verify approved test pressure, test duration, test medium and acceptance criteria before conducting the test.
- Inspect for leakage, pressure drops and visible defects during testing, and document the results.
- Ensure test gauges and measuring instruments are calibrated and suitable for the test.
- Prepare hydrostatic test reports and maintain traceable inspection records.
- Coordinate functional and operational testing of machinery and assemblies as per approved procedures and customer requirements.
- Ensure testing is performed safely, using approved procedures and suitable safeguards.
3. Material Inspection & Verification
- Conduct incoming inspection of MS, SS and other engineering materials, including plates, pipes, tubes, bars, shafts and bought-out components.
- Verify material grades, dimensions, thickness and identification markings against purchase orders and drawings.
- Review Material Test Certificates (MTCs), heat numbers and material traceability records.
- Identify mismatches between supplied materials, purchase specifications and certificates.
- Coordinate material testing through approved laboratories when material grade or quality is in doubt.
- Maintain material inspection records and ensure non-conforming materials are identified and segregated.
4. Dimensional & Final Inspection
- Inspect components and assemblies against approved engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Check dimensions, tolerances, alignment, flatness, hole locations, shaft dimensions, clearances and fitment.
- Use vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators and other suitable measuring instruments.
- Conduct in-process and final inspections before equipment dispatch.
- Verify assembly completeness, workmanship, surface finish, painting and other specified requirements.
- Prepare inspection reports, checklists and final quality documentation.
5. Quality Documentation & Corrective Actions
- Prepare Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), inspection checklists and quality reports where required.
- Raise and track Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct root cause analysis using methods such as 5 Why and Fishbone Analysis.
- Monitor rejection, rework, scrap and customer complaint trends.
- Coordinate with Production, Design, Purchase and Stores to resolve quality issues.
- Support customer inspections, supplier inspections, internal audits and final dispatch clearance.
- Maintain quality records, calibration records, test certificates and traceability documentation.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on Quality Assurance / Quality Control experience in industrial machinery manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, welding or mechanical equipment manufacturing.
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- Practical experience in Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT) and hydrostatic pressure testing.
- Strong knowledge of welding inspection and fabricated assembly inspection.
- Experience in material grade verification, MTC review and heat-number traceability.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings and tolerances.
- Experience in dimensional inspection, in-process inspection and final inspection.
- Knowledge of NCR, root cause analysis, corrective actions and inspection documentation.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and relevant customer specifications.
- Ability to coordinate with production teams and ensure quality requirements are met before dispatch.
Perks & Benefits
