JOB PURPOSE
To lead the complete Quality function of the organization and ensure that all garments meet buyer specifications, approved samples, technical requirements, measurement standards, workmanship standards and shipment quality requirements
The Quality Head will be responsible for developing a Right First Time / Zero Defect culture across fabric, cutting, embroidery, sewing, finishing, packing and final inspection.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Quality Planning & System
- Develop and implement the company's overall Quality Management System.
- Establish quality standards, SOPs, inspection procedures and control plans.
- Define quality checkpoints from fabric receipt to final shipment.
- Establish style-wise quality standards before bulk production.
- Ensure proper documentation and traceability of quality records.
B. Pre-Production Quality
- Review Tech Pack, BOM, measurement chart, construction details and buyer comments.
- Review approved samples and identify critical quality points.
- Conduct Pre-Production Meetings with Merchandising, Sampling, Production and Technical teams.
- Establish quality risk points before bulk production starts.
- Ensure approved sample is available at all relevant production stages.
C. Fabric & Trims
- Control fabric inspection, shade, GSM, width, shrinkage and defects.
- Ensure shade segregation and shade-band approval.
- Monitor quality of buttons, zippers, labels, laces, threads, beads, sequins and other trims.
- Ensure all materials are quality-approved before production.
D. Cutting & Sewing
- Ensure correct pattern, marker, spreading and cutting procedures.
- Control panel matching, print placement, grain direction and shade segregation.
- Monitor sewing quality, SPI, seam allowance, stitch density and seam strength.
- Control skipped stitches, open seams, puckering, uneven stitching and needle damage.
- Ensure effective inline and end-line inspection.
E. High Fashion Workmanship

Ensure the finished garment matches the approved design and luxury workmanship standard.
F. Measurement & Fit
- Ensure measurement control at cutting, sewing and finishing stages.
- Monitor critical measurements against approved measurement charts.
- Conduct size-set and fit evaluations.
- Track measurement deviations and implement corrective action.
- Control shrinkage and fabric behavior affecting garment measurements.
G. Finishing & Final Inspection
- Control pressing, ironing and finishing quality.
- Ensure garments are free from loose threads, stains, oil marks, needle marks and pressing defects.
- Check labels, accessories, folding and packing.
- Conduct final inspection as per buyer requirements and applicable AQL standards.
- Ensure shipment is released only after quality approval.
H. Buyer Quality
- Understand and implement buyer-specific quality manuals.
- Coordinate buyer and third-party inspections.
- Handle buyer complaints and quality escalations.
- Ensure RCA, CAPA and 8D reports are completed within agreed timelines.
- Monitor buyer quality ratings and rejection trends.
I. Continuous Improvement
- Drive RCA, CAPA, 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, PDCA and Kaizen activities.
- Reduce defects, rework, alteration and rejection.
- Identify recurring defects and eliminate them at source.
- Drive continuous improvement projects across departments.
J. Team Leadership
- Lead and develop the Quality team.
- Define responsibilities and performance standards.
- Train inspectors and production teams on quality requirements.
- Conduct regular quality meetings.
- Develop a strong quality-conscious culture throughout the factory.
4. AUTHORITY
The Quality Head is authorized to:
- Stop production in case of critical quality problems.
- Hold defective materials and garments.
- Reject non-conforming materials/products.
- Stop shipment where quality requirements are not met.
- Demand corrective action from responsible departments.
- Escalate critical quality issues to senior management.
- Recommend process changes to prevent recurring defects.
5. QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
Qualification
Degree/Diploma in:
- Textile
- Garment Technology
- Fashion Technology
- Textile Engineering
- Related field
if any
Experience
- 12 To 18 years of experience in garment/apparel quality.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior Quality Manager/Quality Head position.
- High-fashion, premium apparel or export garment experience preferred.
- Experience with international buyers and third-party inspections preferred.
