Job summary

The Tata Consulting Engineers is seeking a Quality Engineer to represent PMC at site for 400 kV and above transmission line and substation projects. You will oversee contractor QA/QC, review ITPs, drawings, test reports and ensure compliance with approved specifications to enable defect-free delivery.

The role requires 8–12 years of hands-on QA/QC experience in large transmission projects, with PMC/owners engineer exposure preferred, and a focus on audits, non-conformance control, and quality

Qualifications

• BE/BTech in Civil or Electrical Engineering with knowledge of QA/QC systems.
• ISO 9001 certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Act as PMC quality representative for 400 kV+ transmission line and substation works.
• Monitor EPC contractor quality plans, ITPs, method statements, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
• Review construction readiness including drawings, inspection formats, test reports, and work-front clearances.
• Witness inspections for tower foundations, erection, stringing, substation civil works, equipment foundations and related activities.
• Review MTCs, calibration records, inspection requests, NCRs, quality records, and final dossiers.
• Identify deviations, non-conformances, defects, documentation gaps; recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Coordinate with client, EPC contractor, engineering, construction, safety, vendors, laboratories, and subcontractors for quality issue resolution.
• Participate in audits, inspections, joint measurements, progress reviews, punch closure, and contractor coordination meetings.
• Track quality KPIs, maintain PMC records, prepare reports, escalate critical issues, support final inspection, handover and completion certification.

Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech in Civil / Electrical Engineering with knowledge of QA/QC systems; ISO 9001 certification preferred.

Experience: 812 years of QA/QC experience in 400 kV and above transmission line and substation construction projects.

Role Purpose

The Quality Engineer will represent the Project Management Consultant at site, monitoring QA/QC compliance for 400 kV and above transmission line and substation works. The role focuses on contractor quality oversight, inspection coordination, non-conformance control, documentation review, compliance with approved specifications, and support for defect-free project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as PMC quality representative for 400 kV and above transmission line and substation works.
• Monitor EPC contractor compliance with approved quality plans, ITPs, method statements, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
• Review construction readiness, including approved drawings, materials, inspection formats, test reports, and work-front clearances.
• Witness inspections for tower foundations, erection, stringing, substation civil works, equipment foundations, structural works, cable trenches, earthing, and related activities.

• Identify deviations, non-conformances, defects, documentation gaps, and workmanship issues; recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Required Experience and Exposure

• Hands-on QA/QC experience in 400 kV and above transmission line and AIS/GIS substation projects, preferably in PMC, client-side, EPC, or owners engineer roles.
• Exposure to quality requirements for tower foundations, tower erection, stringing, substation civil works, equipment foundations, structural works, cable trenches, earthing, and electrical installation interfaces.
• Knowledge of QA/QC systems, ITPs, inspection procedures, NCR management, root cause analysis, material testing, calibration control, and quality documentation.
• Ability to review contractor quality plans, method statements, inspection requests, checklists, test reports, material approvals, and final handover dossiers.
• Experience in conducting audits, inspections, quality meetings, punch point tracking, and project quality reporting.

Competencies:

Candidates should have experience in 400 kV and above transmission line and AIS/GIS substation projects, with expertise in QA/QC compliance, contractor quality monitoring, inspections and testing, ITP implementation, NCR management, quality documentation, and audits. The ideal candidate should possess PMC/Owners Engineer/client-side experience and strong skills in quality reporting, stakeholder coordination, defect prevention, and handover/completion activities.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should have 8–12 years of proven QA/QC experience in 400 kV and above transmission line and substation projects. The candidate should be capable of independently monitoring contractor quality compliance, identifying defects and non-conformances, driving corrective actions, maintaining quality documentation, and supporting defect-free handover to the client.
