Job summary

Bounteous is seeking an experienced Senior QA Engineer (Data Platform) to validate data pipelines, backend APIs, dashboards, and platform workflows on the Azure Synapse data platform. The role emphasizes data accuracy, performance, security, and end-to-end quality across the platform.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience, hands-on testing of ETL processes, data warehouses, and medallion architecture, plus strong SQL and API testing skills.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in data platform testing, ETL validation and pipeline QA.
• Hands-on with Azure Synapse, Data Warehouse concepts and medallion architecture.
• Proficiency in SQL for data validation and troubleshooting.
• Experience with API testing tools (Postman, RestAssured, etc.).
• Exposure to dashboard/reporting testing (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
• Experience with automation frameworks (Selenium, pytest, Robot Framework, or similar).

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and scripts for data pipelines, ETL workflows, APIs, and front-end interfaces.
• Validate ETL data accuracy, performance bottlenecks, and data integrity across platforms.
• Validate onboarding, data ingestion, transformation, and end-to-end reporting workflows for new clients.
• Test dashboards and analytics views for accuracy and timeliness; collaborate with BI teams on data validation.
• Test security, access controls, and governance-related requirements.
• Design and maintain automated test suites and CI/CD integration for regression, functional, and integration tests.

Job Description Senior QA Engineer (Data Platform)

Role: Data Platform QA Engineer
Experience: 5+ years

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced QA Engineer with strong expertise in testing data platforms. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience validating data pipelines, backend APIs, data transformations, dashboards, and platform-level workflows — with a strong understanding of Azure Synapse, Data Warehouse, and medallion architecture.

This role involves ensuring data accuracy, integrity, performance, security, and end-to-end quality across the platform.

Key Responsibilities

1. Test Planning & Execution

• Develop and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts for:
  • Data pipelines and ETL workflows
  • Backend APIs
  • Frontend portals and reporting interfaces

2. ETL & Data Integrity Validation

• Identify and troubleshoot issues related to:
  • ETL data accuracy and integrity
  • Data performance bottlenecks
  • Scalability concerns across data workloads
• Work extensively on the Azure Synapse data platform, Data Warehouse layers, and medallion architecture.

3. Workflow & Onboarding Validation

• Validate data ingestion, transformation, and reporting workflows for new client onboarding.
• Ensure smooth end-to-end flow from source ingestion to reporting/analytics.

4. Dashboard & Analytics Testing

• Verify that dashboards, KPIs, and analytics views reflect accurate, consistent, and up-to-date data.
• Collaborate with BI/reporting teams for UI/UX and data validation.

5. Security & Access Control Testing

• Test platform roles, permissions, and access controls for:
  • Authorization accuracy
  • Compliance and data governance requirements
  • Role-based access across tools and datasets

6. Test Automation

• Design and maintain automated test suites for:
  • Regression testing
  • Functional and integration testing
  • API and data pipeline verification
• Contribute to continuous testing pipelines within CI/CD environments.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in data platform testing, ETL validation, and pipeline quality assurance.
• Hands-on with Azure Synapse, Data Warehouse concepts, and medallion architecture.
• Proficiency in SQL for data validation and troubleshooting.
• Experience with API testing tools (Postman, RestAssured, etc.).
• Exposure to dashboard/reporting testing (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
• Experience with automation frameworks (Selenium, pytest, Robot Framework, or similar).
• Strong analytical, debugging, and documentation skills.

Good to Have

• Experience with Azure DevOps pipelines.
• Familiarity with data security/compliance testing frameworks.
• Understanding of cloud-native data architectures.
