Job summary

Barclays in Pune is seeking a Python/AWS developer to help design, build and improve software that enables our digital platforms. You will work with engineers, analysts and stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure solutions using Python, AWS and container technologies.

Qualifications

  • Strong Python engineering experience (production‑grade code).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and cloud‑native architectures.
  • Experience with platform engineering, internal developer platforms, or shared runtime platforms.
  • Solid understanding of SRE principles, reliability engineering, and distributed systems.
  • Own and manage the Application Platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Design and implement scaling strategies for application and workloads.
  • Build self‑service platform capabilities for engineering and capability teams.
  • Operate and evolve cloud‑native platforms on AWS and On‑premise Kubernetes platforms.
  • Build observability (monitoring, logging, alerting) into platforms by design.
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Job Description Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
  • Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Some other highly valued skills include:
  • Experience with AWS cloud platform.
  • Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies (JavaScript, Angular, React) is a plus.
