Job summary

Burns & McDonnell India is seeking a Protection Application Engineer to perform protection setting calculations, relay logic development, and coordination for 345-kV projects. You will design baselines, generate native relay configurations, and apply industry standards across transformers, buses, and feeders.

The role requires strong knowledge of IEC 61850 and experience with ETAP/SKM/ASPEN CAPE. Collaboration with US counterparts is essential, with Excel automation skills highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in substation protection.
• Master’s degree plus three years of related experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Perform system protection setting calculation, develop relay logic diagrams, and protection coordination on various Transmission and Distribution projects (up to 345-kV).
• Develop design basis documentation for protective settings, relay settings calculations and generate native relay configuration files using SEL’s AcSELerator and GE’s EnerVista software
• Apply industry standards for the protection of system equipment, including power buses, power transformers, HV/MV circuit breakers, capacitor banks, reactors, transmission lines, and distribution feeders
• Perform power system modeling and protective relay coordination analysis using ETAP, SKM, ASPEN OneLiner, or Siemens CAPE software is a plus
• Design calculations, including short circuit calculation, current transformer performance and ratio selection, over-current element coordination, zone-distance element selection and coordination, and relay load ability calculation
• Provide engineering support with construction and commissioning activities for substations
