St Johns Research Institute (SJRI) in Bangalore seeks a statistician/data scientist to develop India-specific exposure-risk functions for climate-related health burdens, leveraging R and Python.
You will analyze health datasets, check data quality with regex, build dashboards, and contribute to technical reports and journal articles for policy impact.
This full-time role requires 3+ years of experience, English and Kannada familiarity, and a collaborative, results-driven approach.
The study is conceptualized to address some of the knowledge gaps and come up with a comprehensive assessment of climate change related health burden for near future. The broad objective is to provide evidence for strategizing climate actions and protect the health of the Indian population from climate stressors. This study will develop downscaled emission-tagged exposure data for climate hazards (various air pollutants, heat and other weather extremes) for the past and future in India. It will elucidate the changes in exposure to air pollution, heat, and weather extremes due to climate variability and feedback. Important targets are to develop India-specific exposure-risk functions for climate hazards to prioritize climate actions; assess health benefits and trade-offs for various climate actions, targeting energy and non-energy sectors; identify protective effects of green and blue space, changes in dietary patterns, and phytochemicals for climate-induced health impacts; assess and prioritize adaptation strategies to mitigate climate-induced health risks and estimate the economic burden of climate-induced health risks in India.
