Job summary

Turner & Townsend in Mumbai, India seeks an experienced Project Manager - Mechanical / Electrical to lead data centre projects from planning through delivery, coordinating cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure on-time, on-budget, high-quality outcomes.

You will oversee scopes, budgets, risk management, and documentation with emphasis on HVAC, power distribution, and data centre standards; professional communication and stakeholder mgmt are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience, with at least 3 years managing mechanical and/or electrical projects in data centre environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, cooling, power distribution, and data centre systems.
  • Proficiency with project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong vendor and stakeholder management with negotiation experience.
  • Experience with budget management, cost control and financial tracking.
  • Understanding data centre infrastructure standards (ANSI/TIA, ISO 14644).
  • Preferred: data centre certifications (CDCP, CCNA) and Agile PM experience.
  • Background in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate mechanical and electrical projects from initiation through completion.
  • Develop project scopes, timelines, budgets, and resource plans; monitor progress and take corrective actions.
  • Manage vendor relationships and procurement; negotiate contracts and ensure compliance.
  • Review mechanical/electrical designs for data centre standards and best practices.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks; communicate issues to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and partners to minimize disruptions.
  • Track budgets and expenditures; report financial status to management.
  • Maintain project documentation: progress reports, change orders, lessons learned.
  • Conduct site inspections and QA checks to meet specs and safety standards.
  • Communicate status, milestones, and deliverables to stakeholders regularly.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and data centre protocols.

Job Description

We're looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Project Manager - Mechanical / Electrical to join our team in Mumbai, India. In this role, you will oversee the planning, execution, and completion of mechanical and electrical projects within our data centre facilities. You will work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate mechanical and electrical projects from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and data centre operational requirements
  • Develop comprehensive project scopes, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation plans; monitor progress and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Manage vendor relationships and procurement processes for mechanical and electrical equipment, materials, and services; negotiate contracts and ensure compliance with specifications
  • Conduct technical reviews of mechanical and electrical designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with data centre standards and best practices
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; develop contingency plans and communicate potential issues to stakeholders proactively
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and external partners to ensure seamless project execution and minimise operational disruptions
  • Monitor project budgets, track expenses, and provide regular financial reporting to management; identify cost‑saving opportunities without compromising quality
  • Maintain detailed project documentation, including progress reports, change orders, and lessons learned; ensure accurate record‑keeping for compliance and future reference
  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality assurance checks to verify work meets technical specifications and safety standards
  • Communicate project status, milestones, and deliverables to stakeholders through regular meetings and comprehensive reports
  • Ensure all projects comply with relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and data centre operational protocols
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience, with at least 3 years managing mechanical and/or electrical projects in data centre or similar infrastructure environments
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, cooling, power distribution) and electrical systems relevant to data centre operations
  • Proficiency with project management tools and software, such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining attention to detail and organisational efficiency
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to assess technical requirements and make informed decisions
  • Strong vendor and stakeholder management capabilities with proven negotiation and communication skills
  • Experience with budget management, cost control, and financial tracking
  • Solid understanding of data centre infrastructure, operations, and industry standards (ANSI/TIA, ISO 14644)
  • Knowledge of building management systems (BMS) and related technologies
  • Familiarity with risk management methodologies and mitigation strategies
  • Professional communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact effectively across all organisational levels
  • Preferred: Data centre‑related certifications such as Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or equivalent
  • Preferred: Experience with Agile project management methodologies
  • Preferred: Background in mechanical or electrical engineering or related technical field
