Purpose of the Role:
- 1. The Project Manager (Civil Engineering) is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of civil engineering projects from initiation to completion.
- 2. The role involves leading the project team, ensuring project objectives are met, maintaining budget and timelines, and ensuring the safety and quality of all work performed.
- 3. The Project Manager will coordinate between various departments, clients, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of projects while adhering to regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Coordination:
- 1. Lead the planning and execution of civil engineering projects, ensuring that scope, schedule, and budget are defined and met.
- 2. Develop and manage detailed project plans, ensuring alignment with client requirements and organizational objectives.
- 3. Establish project milestones, timelines, and deliverables, allocating resources effectively.
- 4. Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to finalize project plans and schedules.
- 5. Organise and lead project kickoff meetings, ensuring all team members are aligned on project scope and objectives.
Budget & Resource Management:
- 1. Develop, monitor, and manage project budgets, ensuring that projects are delivered within budgetary constraints.
- 2. Approve project expenditure and manage procurement of materials, equipment, and labor to ensure cost-efficiency.
- 3. Track and forecast project costs, and take corrective action to resolve budget deviations.
- 4. Ensure that resources (personnel, materials, equipment) are efficiently allocated and used throughout the project lifecycle.
Team Leadership & Management:
- 1. Lead and motivate project teams, including engineers, contractors, and other professionals, ensuring collaboration and effective communication.
- 2. Oversee the work of project engineers, designers, and other team members, providing guidance and resolving conflicts.
- 3. Identify training needs and opportunities for team development, ensuring that skills and knowledge are continually updated.
- 4. Monitor team performance, providing feedback, and ensuring productivity and quality standards are maintained.
Project Execution & Monitoring:
- 1. Ensure the timely execution of projects, making adjustments to schedules or resources as necessary to keep on track.
- 2. Regularly review project progress, identifying potential delays, risks, and issues, and implementing solutions to mitigate them.
- 3. Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with relevant safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental guidelines.
- 4. Monitor the quality of work and adherence to specifications, conducting site visits and inspections.
- 5. Ensure that all project documentation is maintained accurately and up to date, including schedules, budgets, reports, and change orders.
Risk Management & Problem Solving:
- 1. Identify and assess potential project risks (technical, financial, environmental, etc.) and develop mitigation strategies.
- 2. Resolve any technical issues, design changes, or on-site challenges that arise during the project lifecycle.
- 3. Ensure that all permits, inspections, and compliance requirements are met throughout the project.
- 4. Address conflicts or disputes among stakeholders and lead negotiations to resolve them amicably.
Client & Stakeholder Management:
- 1. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular project updates and addressing concerns or questions.
- 2. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
- 3. Ensure client expectations are managed, delivering projects that align with their needs, scope, and budget.
- 4. Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, senior management, and other stakeholders to report on project status and performance.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- 1. Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards on all project sites.
- 2. Lead the development and implementation of safety protocols, ensuring all team members are trained and informed.
- 3. Monitor site safety audits, ensuring corrective actions are taken when necessary.
Project Reporting & Documentation:
- 1. Prepare and deliver project reports, including progress reports, budget updates, and risk assessments, to senior management and clients.
- 2. Maintain accurate and organized project records, including contracts, drawings, RFIs, change orders, and meeting notes.
- 3. Ensure that all legal and contractual requirements are met and document any changes in scope, costs, or timelines.
Ideal Candidate for the role:
Knowledge:
- 1. Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction practices, and project management methodologies.
- 2. In-depth understanding of project management tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera).
- 3. Familiarity with budgeting, cost estimation, procurement processes, and contract management.
- 4. Knowledge of local and international building codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
- 5. Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and environmental compliance in construction.

Education & Experience:
- 1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (Masters degree is a plus).
- 2. Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in civil engineering, with at least 3-5 years in project management roles.
- 3. Experience managing large-scale civil engineering projects from start to finish, including budget and resource management.
- 4. Experience with civil engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools) is a plus.
