Job summary

Lam Research in Bangalore seeks a Lead Project Engineer to manage non-standard requests (NSRs) from initial review to final release. You will coordinate with Engineering, Product Management, Account Teams and Sales Operations to ensure timely, cost-aware NSR solutions for global customers.

You’ll lead design scope, work with cross-functional teams across India and the US, and drive engineering change processes while maintaining strong stakeholder communication and project visibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in engineering with 7+ years experience or Master’s with 5+ years.
  • Experience in NSR workflow from review to release and customer coordination.
  • Strong CAD, BOM and ECN/process understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Manage NSR workflow from intake through design release and final customer delivery.
  • Coordinate scope, cost, lead-time and dates with cross-functional teams.
  • Finalize design scope and drive cross-functional execution and release.

Job description

Lam Research established its global center in Bangalore to expand access to India’s engineering talent. Over the past decade, the center has broadened its scope beyond engineering to include global manufacturing, supply chain operations, and shared services. One of its major functional groups is LIGHT (Lam India Global Hardware Technology), where mechanical engineers, simulation analysts, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and engineering support teams collaborate to design and develop subassemblies and subsystems for Lam’s next‑generation products. LIGHT has grown into a key new product development and sustaining engineering organization within Lam’s global engineering footprint.

There is an opening for a Lead Project Engineer based in Bangalore, reporting directly to the leader of WETS (Wet Equipment Technology Solutions) Engineering Operations within LIGHT. This individual will collaborate with engineers in India and the United States on product sustaining activities for WETS product lines.

What You’ll Do

At Lam, the Lead Project Engineer for Non‑Standard Requests (NSRs) will work closely with Engineering, Product Management, Account Teams, Sales Operations and cross‑functional teams across global regions to manage productivity and technology upgrade requests for global customers.

This role will own the NSR workflow from initial review through execution, design approval, and final release, while serving as the primary link between external stakeholders and internal engineering and operations teams.

Responsibilities Include
  • Review NSR submissions for completeness, accuracy, technical feasibility, and clarity of customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with Account Teams, Product Management, Sales Operations, Engineering, and Global Operations to finalize scope, cost estimates, lead‑time feasibility, and customer request dates.
  • Finalize NSR design scope and drive design execution, cross‑functional engineering coordination, design‑review approval, and release of finalized customer‑specific solutions.
Who We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Mandatory Skills
  • Ability to drive concurrent engineering projects involving fluid systems, fabricated components, and machined components and assemblies using DFX principles.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and drafting of parts, systems, and subsystems.
  • Experience in sheet metal and plastic design, joining (welding), and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in tubing design, drafting, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in product structuring and configuration or variant management.
  • Knowledge of complex bill of material structures and experience with the engineering change release process.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as Creo/NX, Teamcenter PLM, and PDM systems.
  • Experience selecting OEM components.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse technical and non‑technical stakeholders across the organization.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience in the semiconductor capital equipment industry is preferred.
  • Experience with SAP and Fiori applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on‑site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On‑site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On‑site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on‑site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1‑2 days per week on‑site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
