Job description

Job Title: Project and Programme Management
  • As a Project Lead within Finance Transformation, you'll lead end-to-end delivery of complex Finance change globally across wider Group Finance. You'll be accountable for delivery outcomes, governance, benefits realisation, stakeholder alignment, and controlled implementation across Financial Reporting, MI and GL/SL-related transformation - often enabled by significant systems change and cloud technologies.
  • This role operates in a fast-paced, matrix environment and requires strong delivery discipline, senior stakeholder influence, and the ability to translate complexity into clear execution plans.
In this role, you will:
End-to-end delivery leadership
  • Lead the full project lifecycle (initiation, mobilisation, design, build, test, cutover, hypercare and closure), ensuring delivery to scope, schedule, cost and quality.
  • Develop and maintain integrated plans, workstream structure, resourcing approach, and delivery governance.
  • Manage dependencies across Finance, Technology, Data, Controls and Operations, ensuring delivery sequencing supports business readiness.
Finance transformation delivery
  • Deliver measurable outcomes within the Finance domain, with focus on one or more of:
  • Financial Reporting transformation
  • Management Information (MI) improvements (timeliness, standardisation, accuracy)
  • GL/SL implementation and complex ledger programmes
  • Finance process redesign and control uplift
  • Ensure business impacts (close, reconciliations, data quality, controls, operating model) are assessed, communicated and managed.
Systems, data and cloud enablement
  • Lead change involving Finance systems such as Oracle Fusion, TM1, and other global/regional/local Finance platforms, understanding the processes and data flows they support.
  • Apply knowledge of cloud services and how they are used within Finance solutions, partnering with Technology to deliver secure, resilient and supportable outcomes.
  • Drive pragmatic use of digital tools and system capabilities to simplify processes and improve efficiency.
Governance, risk and control
  • Run delivery governance (SteerCo, working groups, decision forums) with high-quality executive reporting, decision papers and clear actions.
  • Maintain robust delivery controls: RAID, change control, financial management, cutover planning, and delivery assurance.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and evidence is produced to meet audit/control expectations.
Stakeholder management and leadership
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the Group; facilitate decision-making, influence outcomes, and manage conflict constructively.
  • Lead a matrix team (directly and/or indirectly), setting clear direction, standards and ways of working; contribute to development and retention of critical talent.
Benefits realisation
  • Define, baseline and track quantifiable benefits (e.g., close acceleration, MI cycle time reduction, automation %, reduced manual adjustments, improved data quality and control effectiveness).
  • Ensure benefits are owned and sustained post-implementation.
To be successful you will:
Essential
  • SME-level Project Management capability with experience delivering large-scale programmes and complex projects.
  • Demonstrable track record of successful delivery within the Finance domain with quantifiable business benefits, including experience in Financial Reporting, MI, GL/SL implementations and/or complex transformation programmes.
  • Strong experience across delivery methodologies including Agile, Waterfall and tailored/hybrid approaches; ability to apply the right approach based on context.
  • Knowledge of cloud services and their application within Finance solutions.
  • Strong understanding of HSBC Group structures, values, behaviours, processes and objectives; proven ability to work effectively across multiple locations and cultures.
  • Strong leadership capability in a large matrix organisation, including experience of developing and retaining critical talent.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and facilitation skills, with proven ability to influence decisions and manage conflict.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills; confident communicator at all levels in a complex global environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Strong desire and proven ability to comprehend system complexity and leverage digital tools to identify solutions and opportunities.
Preferred
  • Industry-standard project/programme management qualification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, MSP or equivalent).
