Job summary

CEEW in New Delhi is seeking a Programme Lead/Senior Programme Lead for Industrial Sustainability to advance decarbonisation research and engagement with government and industry. You will oversee multiple projects, build techno-economic models, and help craft policy-ready analyses for decision-makers.

Qualifications

  • Master degree in chemical, energy, industrial, production, mechanical engineering or other related field.
  • Strong understanding of India’s energy markets and policy environment.
  • 8–10 years of relevant research, policy/industry engagement and project management experience.
  • Experience writing whitepapers, articles, policy briefs and research reports.
  • Proven team and project management with timely delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualise and implement new decarbonisation research projects and market solutions.
  • Develop models for material-energy balance, techno-economic analysis and energy system optimisation.
  • Conduct comprehensive research from primary and secondary sources for technology assessment and business modeling.
  • Induct new tools and approaches for sector analysis.
  • Monitor key policy and technical developments and draft briefing notes and policy documents.
  • Publish research reports, policy papers and memos; engage with government officials and industry experts.
  • Drive daily analytical requirements and coordinate with international experts on the topic.

Purpose

TheIndustrial Sustainability (IS) team aims to support India’s low carbon growthaspirations by advancing the uptake of green energy and resource efficiencypractices. The IS team is working on several different initiatives that includeenergy transitions in the oil and gas sector, an assessment of alternativefuels like green hydrogen and biofuels uptake across difficult-to-decarbonisesectors in industry and mobility applications, developing optimaldecarbonisation trajectory for the steel and cement sector, assessing theprospects on carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) in India andcharacterising the industrial sector value chains to analyse various aspectssuch as carbon footprint, financial strength, resource requirements, and jobssupported.

TheIS team seeks to hire a highly committed candidate to build and expand ourprogramme in the above mentioned sectors as well as to support governmentengagements. The candidate should be flexible to work on multiple projects inparallel depending on the priorities of the team. This role demands highquality research to provide direction, support, and insights to the policyplanners and industry captains towards decarbonisation options. The candidateshould have an active and self-directed interest towards the assessment andproduction of alternative fuels including green hydrogen and derivatives,biofuels, CCUS, industrial decarbonisation and other related sectors. She/heshould be able to perform resource assessments, material-energy balance,techno-economic analysis, emissions analysis, scenario comparisons, etc. Thecandidate should be willing to collaborate with other researchers in therespective domain and independently drive collaboration with internationalexperts on the topic. Further, the candidate should have good oral and writtencommunication skills and have the capability to independently drive governmentengagements, draft briefing notes and policy documents.

Job Duties and Accountabilities
Research
  • Conceptualise and implement newresearch projects, methodologies, and market solutions for decarbonising theindustrial sector and developing new green energy sector.
  • Develop models for material-energybalance, techno-economic analysis, energy systems optimisation and technologyassessment and forecasting
  • Conduct comprehensive research,utilising primary and secondary sources, to assess various technologies anddevelop business models for their adoption
  • To be able to induct new tools andapproaches in the analysis of the said sectors/sub-sectors
  • Actively monitor and communicate keypolicy and technical developments in the sector
  • To be able to write high-quality firstdrafts of reports, papers and analyses for internal and external circulation
  • Publish high-quality research reports,policy papers, issue briefs, memos, opinion-pieces, blogs etc.
  • Support stakeholder engagement andrelevant convening, including policy and technical exchanges among governmentofficials, R&D facilities, subject experts, etc.
  • Drivedaily analytical requirements of the team in responding to short-turnaroundrequests or studies
Shortlisting Criteria
Qualification
  • Master degree in chemical, energy,industrial, production, mechanical engineering or other graduate courses alongthese lines.
  • Sound understanding of India’s energymarkets and policy and regulatory environment
  • Strongresearch background with an adequate understanding of research methods andquantitative skills
  • At least 8 – 10 years of relevant workexperience in the field of research, policy/industry engagement and projectmanagement in the area of fossil fuels, alternative fuels and industrialdecarbonisation
  • Prior experience of writing whitepapers, articles, policy briefs and research reports
  • Strong track record of team andproject management including timely delivery of outputs
  • Priorexperience in consulting firms or think tanks would be preferred
  • Ability and proven expertise toconduct techno-economic analysis, cost & benefit analysis, material-energybalances, sound knowledge of basic economic principles.
  • Managing a team and delivering undertight deadlines
  • Basic understanding of industrialsector and handling external (including government) engagements
  • Proficiency in Excel is essential.Experience with software programmes such as Python, Matlab is a plus.
  • Good written and oral communicationskills.
  • Willingnessfor occasional travel to stakeholder offices or operations
