Job summary

Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) in New Delhi is recruiting a Programme Associate – Technology Futures to shape research on accelerating circular economy adoption in clean energy sectors. The role requires frequent travel to recycling clusters, priority states, and research institutions to support the team’s studies and stakeholder consultations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Research and research management: stay updated on recycling technologies for solar modules and batteries; track policy and regulatory developments on circularity; conceptualise and implement new research on circularity in clean energy sectors; disseminate research through blogs, reports, briefs, memos.
  • Programme Assistance: lead project execution with activity plans, timelines, and donor engagement; build relationships with recyclers, OEMs, and research bodies; organize webinars and events; support consultations with government and industry; co-develop programmes and mentor colleagues; collaborate with Technology Futures and Industrial Sustainability.
  • Desirable Outcomes (first year): lead a research project on circularity; establish partnerships; take institutional responsibilities.

Purpose

Justlike other emerging economies, India is undergoing multiple energy transitions.The country is gaining universal access to modern, reliable and affordableenergy services on one hand while transitioning to a low-carbon energy mix onthe other. The Council’s Energy Transitions team is supporting India’s and emergingeconomies’ double leapfrog to a clean energy future, albeit in a sociallyequitable and environmentally responsible manner.

CEEWseeks to hire a suitable candidate for the Programme Associate position toshape the team’s research efforts on accelerating the adoption of the circulareconomy in clean energy sectors. To achieve this, the candidate will beexpected to build expertise on three fronts: technical understanding ofrecycling technologies and processes for clean energy technologies, marketmechanisms to incentivise circularity, and policy and regulations related tocircular practices.

Thecandidate will be expected to travel frequently to recycling clusters, prioritystates, and research institutions to support the team's research efforts, aswell as plan and organise consultations and workshops with diversestakeholders.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research and research management :

  • Stay abreast of the latest research and developments on recyclingtechnologies for solar modules and batteries, recycling processes in academiaand private sector to inform team’s research.
  • Track and analyse the policy and regulatory developments oncircularity for clean energy sectors in India and globally to inform team’sstrategy.
  • Conceptualise and implement new research to inform circularitynarrative for clean energy sectors. Design innovative ideas on technologicalsolutions, policy interventions and market design that can support theecosystem of battery circularity in India.
  • Independently create different knowledge pieces to disseminateresearch: blogs, reports, briefs, memos, and opinion pieces.

ProgrammeAssistance:

  • Lead project execution by contributing towards preparing detailedactivity plans and timelines, resource planning, stakeholder management,cross-team interactions, and donor engagement.
  • Develop trust-based relationships with key stakeholders, such asrecyclers, OEMs and other research organisations and interact regularly tounderstand the challenges and opportunities in the circularity for clean energysectors.
  • Contribute to the team’s outreach efforts including organising webinars,roundtable discussions and physical events, as well as representing CEEW at keyplatforms.
  • Contribute towards consultations and briefings with government,industry and institutional partners.
  • Co-develop the programme and mentor younger colleagues. Workclosely with other teams like Technology Futures and Industrial Sustainability.
  • Work with senior researchers on conceptualising new projects (asand when needed) and support revenue generation for new projects.

DesirableOutcomes (first year):

  • Lead at least one research project on circularity in clean energysectors.
  • Establish at least one new partnership to advance team’s work.
  • Take up at-least one institutional responsibility or actively workon one institutional initiative.
Selection Criteria
  • Masters’ degree in chemical science/engineering, environmentalscience/policy, or related fields.
  • 4-6 years of experience in circular economy, waste management, industrialsustainability, or relevant areas mentioned in the section ‘Purpose’ above
  • Published peer-reviewed publications (reports/journal papers) onthe relevant topic.
  • Ability to identify technical and policy issues, interpret data,develop quantitative methods, and identify/ develop creative solutions.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; Good report writingand strong presentation skills.
