Job summary

Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) seeks a Programme Associate for Energy Transitions in New Delhi to advance research on circular economy, battery recycling, and clean energy policies. The role involves coordinating projects, engaging with recyclers, OEMs, and research groups, and organizing events and workshops to accelerate India's energy transition.

Qualifications

• Masters’ degree in chemical science/engineering, environmental science/policy, or related fields.
• 3–5 years of experience in circular economy, battery recycling, industrial sustainability, or relevant areas.
• Ability to identify technical and policy issues, interpret data, develop quantitative methods, and identify/develop creative solutions.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; good report writing and strong presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Research and research management: stay abreast of latest battery technologies and recycling processes to inform the team’s research.
• Track and analyse policy and regulatory developments on battery circularity in India and globally to inform strategy.
• Conceptualise and implement new research on battery circularity; design technological, policy and market design solutions.
• Independently create knowledge pieces to disseminate research: blogs, reports, briefs, memos, and opinion pieces.
• Lead project execution with activity plans, timelines, resource planning, stakeholder management, and donor engagement.
• Develop relationships with recyclers, OEMs and other research organisations; interact regularly to understand challenges and opportunities.

Purpose

Justlike other emerging economies, India is undergoing multiple energy transitions.The country is gaining universal access to modern, reliable and affordableenergy services on one hand while transitioning to a low-carbon energy mix onthe other. The Council’s Energy Transitions team is supporting India’s andemerging economies’ double leapfrog to a clean energy future, albeit in asocially equitable and environmentally responsible manner. CEEW seeks to hire a suitable candidate for the Programme Associate position toshape the team’s research efforts on accelerating the adoption of the circulareconomy in clean energy sectors. To achieve this, the candidate will beexpected to build expertise on three fronts: technical understanding ofrecycling and manufacturing processes, market mechanisms to incentivise circularity,and policy and regulations related to circular practices. We are looking for candidates with a strong technical understanding of India'sevolving battery ecosystem, particularly battery chemistries and recyclingtechnologies. The candidate will be expected to travel frequently to recyclingclusters, priority states, and research institutions to support the team'sresearch efforts, as well as plan and organise consultations and workshops withdiverse stakeholders.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research and research management:

• Stay abreast of the latest research and developments on batterytechnologies, recycling processes in academia and private sector to informteam’s research.
• Track and analyse the policy and regulatory developments on batterycircularity in India and globally to inform team’s strategy.
• Conceptualise and implement new research to inform batterycircularity narrative. Design innovative ideas on technological solutions,policy interventions and market design that can support the ecosystem ofbattery circularity in India.
• Independently create different knowledge pieces to disseminate research: blogs, reports, briefs, memos, and opinion pieces.

ProgrammeAssistance:

• Lead project execution by contributing towards preparing detailed activity plans and timelines, resource planning, stakeholder management, cross-team interactions, and donor engagement.
• Develop trust-based relationships with key stakeholders, such as recyclers, OEMs and other research organisations and interact regularly to understand the challenges and opportunities in the battery circularity.
• Contribute to the team’s outreach efforts including organising webinars, roundtable discussions and physical events, as well as representing CEEW at key platforms.
• Contribute towards consultations and briefings with government, industry and institutional partners.
• Co-develop the programme and mentor younger colleagues. Work closely with other teams like Technology Futures and Industrial Sustainability.
• Work with senior researchers on conceptualising new projects (as and when needed) and support revenue generation for new projects.

• Establish at least one new partnership to advance team’s work.

Selection Criteria

• Masters’ degree in chemical science/engineering, environmentalscience/policy, or related fields.
• 3–5 years of experience in circular economy, battery recycling, industrial sustainability, or relevant areas mentioned in the section ‘Purpose’above Published peer-reviewed publications (reports/journal papers) on the relevant topic.
• Ability to identify technical and policy issues, interpret data, develop quantitative methods, and identify/ develop creative solutions.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; Good report writingand strong presentation skills.
