J JOB DESCRIPTION: PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR

Job Summary

The Production Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the manufacturing production line, ensuring that production goals, safety standards, and quality requirements are met. The ideal candidate will be a Mechanical Engineer with substantial experience in production or manufacturing environments. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Production Supervisor to oversee the operations of our rotogravure printing process. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of rotogravure printing machines, an understanding of colour management, and experience with various types of paper used in printing. He will manage manpower, optimize production processes, and use data to improve efficiency. Proficiency in Excel and other data management tools is essential for tracking performance, reporting, and analyzing key production metrics.

Key Responsibilities
Production Management
  • (a) Supervise and coordinate day-to-day activities of the production team to ensure manufacturing targets are met in a timely and efficient manner.
  • (b) Supervise and ensure the efficient operation of rotogravure printing machines.
  • (c) Conduct routine checks and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is in optimal working condition.
  • (d) Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to rotogravure printing, including adjustments to the printing cylinders, ink, and web alignment.
  • (e) Monitor production processes, identify blocks, and implement corrective actions to improve workflow and minimize downtime.
  • (f) Ensure zero waste management
Colour Management
  • (a) Monitor and adjust ink formulations to ensure accurate colour reproduction and consistency across production runs.
  • (b) Work closely with the ink mixing team to ensure the proper blending of inks for optimal print quality.
Quality Control
  • (a) Ensure that printed products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
  • (b) Perform regular inspections on printed samples to check for defects such as colour consistency, print alignment, and paper quality.
  • (c) Implement corrective actions to resolve any deviations from quality standards.
Paper Handling & Selection
  • (a) Have a thorough understanding of various types of paper used in rotogravure printing and their compatibility with different inks and coatings.
  • (b) Monitor paper roll quality and ensure the correct selection of paper grades for each print job.
Production Planning & Reporting
  • (a) Coordinate with the production manager and other departments to plan daily production schedules.
  • (b) Maintain production records, including machine downtime, material usage, and output rates.
  • (c) Prepare and present regular production reports to management, highlighting any challenges and improvements.
Manpower Control
  • (a) Manage and allocate resources effectively to optimize labour productivity.
  • (b) Monitor attendance and performance of the production team, providing guidance and support as necessary.
  • (c) Plan and adjust shift schedules based on production needs and labour availability.
  • (d) Conduct training and development sessions to enhance the skillset of the production team.
Reporting & Data Analysis
  • (a) Utilize advanced Excel skills to track key production metrics, including production output, downtime, and labour efficiency.
  • (b) Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports to provide insights into performance trends and areas for improvement.
  • (c) Analyze data and provide recommendations to senior management for increasing productivity and improving processes.
Safety Compliance
  • (a) Enforce safety policies and ensure that all production activities comply with safety regulations.
  • (b) Conduct safety training sessions for the production team and oversee safety audits to maintain a safe working environment.
Qualifications & Skills
  • (a) Proven experience as a Production Supervisor in a rotogravure printing environment.
  • (b) Strong knowledge of rotogravure printing technology, including machine setup, operation, and maintenance.
  • (c) In-depth understanding of colour management and ink mixing processes.
  • (d) Familiarity with different types of paper and their suitability for various printing jobs.
  • (e) Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • (f) Ability to lead, train, and motivate a team to achieve production goals.
  • (g) Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.
  • (h) Good communication skills and ability to work well with cross-functional teams.
  • (i) Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering is preferable
