Job summary

HR Equity Talent Hiring Partners seeks a Production Manager to run a ductile iron foundry in West Bengal. You will oversee three automatic moulding lines, ensuring metallurgical quality, on-time delivery, and target tonnages.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years in production in cast iron, an Engineering degree, and experience with large, organised players in export-focused operations. You will lead safety, yield improvement, and daily reporting to senior management.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of production experience in a cast iron or ductile iron foundry.
• This is a lateral hire; candidate must have held a Production Manager role for at least 5 years.
• Experience with large, organized players in castings and ferrous industries is preferred.
• Experience with automatic high-volume moulding lines and export castings.
• Engineering degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Production.

Responsibilities

• Achieve full utilisation of three automatic moulding lines and meet tonnage targets.
• Minimise breakdowns and unplanned downtime in coordination with maintenance.
• Ensure castings meet export standards and customer specifications.
• Reduce rejection, rework and scrap while maintaining quality.
• Maintain shift-wise and daily data on tonnage, line utilisation, downtime and yield.
• Report monthly performance against targets to the CEO.

Job Description – Production Manager

About the Company

The company is an export-oriented ductile iron foundry located at Andal, Durgapur, West Bengal, with its head office at Lucknow. The company manufactures ductile iron castings, primarily manhole covers and frames, for customers in the United Kingdom and Europe. It operates three fully automatic moulding lines with a capacity of approximately 24,000 tonnes per annum, and is on a growth path that includes development of the domestic market and diversification into new high-value segments.

Role Purpose

To run the foundry's three automatic moulding lines at full capacity, with consistent metallurgical quality.

Roles and Responsibilities

Capacity

• Achieve full utilisation of the automatic moulding lines and production targets for tonnage and on-time delivery.
• Minimise breakdowns and unplanned downtime, in coordination with the maintenance function.

Quality

• Ensure castings meet customer specifications and export standards.
• Reduce rejection, rework and scrap.

Cost and Safety

• Achieve norms for liquid metal yield, power and raw material per tonne.
• Ensure safe working practices across melting, pouring and other high-risk areas.

Data and Reporting

• Maintain accurate shift-wise and daily data on tonnage, line utilisation, downtime, yield, rejection and consumption.
• Report daily production results, and monthly performance against targets with reasons for variance, to the Chief Executive Officer.

Candidate Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in production in a cast iron or ductile iron foundry.
• This is a lateral hire: the candidate must currently hold, or have held for at least 5 years, the position of Production Manager (or equivalent) in a ductile iron foundry of comparable scale.
• Preference for candidates who have worked with large, organised players in the castings and ferrous industry.
• Experience of automatic high-volume moulding lines and of castings for export customers.
• Graduate in Engineering (Mechanical / Metallurgical / Production).
