Position Summary
Join athenahealth’s Clinicals division as a Product Manager responsible for a defined product area within the broader portfolio. In this role, you will understand customer needs and market opportunities, contribute to product vision, and define features that meet business and user requirements. You will also work closely with engineering, data science, and design teams to deliver safe, trustworthy, and valuable product experiences, including responsible use of AI in clinical workflows. This role reports to the Product leader for the assigned product area.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Define and manage the product strategy and roadmap for an assigned product area.
- Work with engineering and scrum teams to prioritize backlog items and guide day‑to‑day delivery.
- Write clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and product requirements that support successful implementation.
- Partner with cross‑functional teams to evaluate customer needs, market trends, and business opportunities.
- Contribute to product discovery, including identifying problems, testing concepts, and validating solutions with users and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to shape AI‑enabled features that are usable, measurable, and appropriate for clinical workflows.
- Define how AI‑enabled capabilities should behave, including expectations for trust, explainability, and human oversight where needed.
- Monitor product performance after release and use feedback, data, and user input to guide improvements.
- Support launch planning, adoption activities, and resolution of production issues as needed.
- Use AI‑enabled tools and product analytics to help refine requirements, evaluate tradeoffs, and improve decision‑making across product planning and delivery.
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Support build‑versus‑buy evaluations for product capabilities.
- Partner with product leadership on release decisions and stakeholder alignment.
- Help manage alpha and beta feedback during product testing and rollout.
- Represent the voice of the customer in product discussions and decision‑making.
- Coordinate with legal, compliance, sales, marketing, and operations partners when needed.
- Contribute to measurement frameworks for product and feature performance.
- Support continuous improvement efforts across the product lifecycle.
Expected Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- 5+ years of product management experience.
- Experience working in an Agile environment preferred.
- Experience in healthcare or health technology preferred.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and how they apply to product delivery.
- Familiarity with model lifecycle concepts such as training, validation, deployment, and monitoring.
- Familiarity with data pipelines, data quality considerations, and experimentation methods.
- Understanding of responsible AI principles, including bias, explainability, and trust.
- Experience working on AI‑driven or data‑intensive products preferred.
- Experience bringing products to market and supporting adoption after launch.
- Technical understanding of mobile, SaaS, data, and APIs to assess feasibility and timelines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly.
