Role & responsibilities
1. Research & Concept Development
- Interpret client briefs, product requirements, target users, market needs, and project objectives.
- Conduct product and competitor research, trend analysis, and design benchmarking.
- Lead brainstorming and ideation; explore alternatives through hand sketches, mood boards, form studies, and concept narratives.
- Evaluate concepts for aesthetics, usability, functionality, and feasibility, then recommend a clear design direction.
2. Industrial Design & Visualization
- Develop product form, proportions, ergonomics, and CMF (color, material, and finish).
- Create 2D sketches, 3D models, and high-quality renders to communicate concepts and support client presentations.
- Build clear visual presentations that explain the design rationale, key features, and intended user experience.
- Refine concepts based on feedback while maintaining design intent and visual quality.
3. Client Communication & Collaboration
- Clarify client expectations, functional requirements, preferences, and constraints; translate them into actionable design briefs.
- Present concepts and explain design decisions, gather feedback, and manage design iterations with clear communication.
- Work with R&D, engineering, sourcing, and production teams to align the design with project requirements.
4. Prototype Development & Validation
- Create mock-ups, low-fidelity prototypes, and digital or physical models to explore and validate concepts.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop functional prototypes and communicate design intent during handover.
- Review prototypes for aesthetics, ergonomics, proportions, and usability; identify gaps and recommend improvements.
5. Product Graphics & Packaging
- Design product-related graphics, labels, icons, product markings, packaging artwork, and instruction-manual layouts as required.
- Create product feature graphics, infographics, and visual guides that support product communication.
- Prepare print-ready artwork and coordinate with relevant teams or suppliers for implementation.
6. Design Delivery & Workflow
- Maintain organized design files, presentations, renderings, and revision records.
- Research relevant materials, finishes, technologies, and design methods to inform design decisions.
- Use AI-assisted tools where helpful for ideation, visualization, and workflow efficiency.
- Manage assigned tasks and timelines while maintaining quality and consistency.
Preferred candidate profile
- Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) in Product Design, Industrial Design, or a closely related design discipline.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in product or industrial design.
- Strong hand-sketching, ideation, form development, and concept-presentation skills.
- Experience with 3D modeling and product visualization; ability to produce high-quality renders.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for product graphics and artwork.
- Understanding of materials, manufacturing methods, ergonomics, CMF, and prototype development.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with consumer products, beauty and wellness devices, electronics, or similar physical products.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent 3D modeling tools.
