Job summary

Featherlite in Bengaluru, India seeks a design engineer to develop new furniture products — chairs, workstations, tables, storage systems — from concept through production. You will create concepts, sketches, 2D drawings and 3D models, and prepare manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD/SolidWorks/related CAD tools, collaborating with R&D, engineering, manufacturing, procurement and quality teams.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of product design and product development.
• Good understanding of furniture design and manufacturing.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modelling software such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, SketchUp.
• Knowledge of materials such as metal, wood, plastic, foam, fabric and upholstery.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication and assembly.
• Good knowledge of engineering drawings and BOM.
• Creative thinking with practical/technical problem-solving ability.
• Good communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

Role & responsibilities

• Develop new furniture products such as office chairs, workstations, tables, storage systems and other workspace products.
• Create product concepts, sketches, 2D drawings and detailed 3D models.
• Prepare manufacturing and engineering drawings using AutoCAD / SolidWorks / similar CAD software.
• Work closely with R&D, engineering, manufacturing, procurement and quality teams.
• Develop prototypes and coordinate prototype testing and modifications.
• Ensure designs are functional, ergonomic, aesthetically appealing and commercially viable.
• Select appropriate materials, components, finishes and manufacturing processes.
• Modify existing products based on customer requirements, market trends and production feedback.
• Prepare BOM, specifications and technical documentation.
• Conduct design reviews and implement improvements based on feedback.
• Ensure products can be manufactured efficiently and within the targeted cost.
• Support New Product Development (NPD) from concept to production.
• Study competitor products and market trends to identify new product opportunities.
• Coordinate with suppliers for components, samples and technical specifications.

Required Skills
