Job summary

Genrobotic Innovations invites final-year students or fresh graduates for a Mechanical Design internship at Technopark Phase 1, Trivandrum. You will work with the product design team on 3D modelling, drawings, prototyping, testing, and design refinements.

You'll gain hands-on experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Creo, Fusion 360), BOMs, DFM/DFA concepts, and cross-functional collaboration to drive reliable, manufacturable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling using SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Creo, or Fusion 360.
  • Ability to prepare 2D drawings with dimensions, tolerances, and material specs.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, welding, 3D printing).
  • Basic engineering calculations and tolerance analysis.
  • Prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of materials and component selection.
  • Familiarity with GDT and BOM documentation is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to learn new tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in 3D CAD modelling and product design using SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Creo, or Fusion 360.
  • Support the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and product prototypes.
  • Prepare and update 2D manufacturing drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
  • Assist senior engineers in design calculations, component selection, and basic engineering analysis.
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, and design validation.
  • Identify design issues and suggest design improvements for functionality, manufacturability, reliability, and cost reduction.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Production, QC, and VV teams during product development.
  • Support testing and verification activities and document test results.
  • Maintain proper version control and revision history of design files and documents.
  • Learn and apply GDT, material selection, manufacturing processes, and mechanical design principles.
  • Support other product development activities assigned by the Product Design/Mechanical Engineering team.

Brief Job Description

Support the product design and development team in 3D modelling, engineering drawings, prototyping, testing, and design improvements. Assist in developing mechanical components and assemblies, preparing BOMs and technical documentation, and coordinating with manufacturing, QC, electrical, and VV teams. The intern will gain practical exposure to CAD tools, DFM/DFA, mechanical design, testing, and product development processes.

  • Prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Basic understanding of materials and component selection
  • Basic knowledge of FEA/simulation tools is an advantage
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Good communication and teamwork
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new design tools and technologies.
Basic qualification
  • Bachelor s degree/diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Additional qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD modelling and assembly design through academic or personal projects.
  • Basic knowledge of DFM/DFA, GDT, and tolerance analysis.
  • Basic understanding of BOM preparation and engineering documentation.
  • Experience working with engineering change documentation and revision control is preferred.
