Mission of the Role
As a principal software engineer, you will coordinate and implement both Android Automotive OS platform features as well as customer‑facing features of our connected, embedded Infotainment System.
Key Objectives
- Responsible from requirement analysis till realization of functionality in Android Automotive domain.
- Develop different modules/components in the Android Automotive System.
- Own multiple components for Android Automotive System delivery, ensuring integration of software.
- Implement defined test strategies and document results.
- Ensure traceability, consistency of requirements and feature maturity; triage and resolve defects.
- Work with other domains to resolve dependencies on features and defects.
- Mentor less experienced team members to guide and assist them in completing their tasks on time.
Key Performance Indicators
KPIs will include metrics related to team performance, financial performance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Year One Deliverables
Metrics and outcomes to be delivered in the first year.
Qualifications
Mandatory Skills
- Solid working experience with software lifecycle methodologies.
- Collaboration within an agile cross‑functional team environment.
- Strong leadership, planning and organization skills.
- Mentoring skills for less experienced team members.
- Expert knowledge of the Android Framework, AOSP platform architecture, and related build system.
- 9+ years of experience modifying Android framework components, system services, and the Android SDK.
- Good understanding of Android Automotive System and Car Service Framework.
- Strong understanding of Android components: Services, Broadcast Receivers, Content Providers, Treble Architecture, AIDL, Binder, ANR, SystemServer, InputServices, Permission controllers, Android make and BP files, USB Management, PackageManagerService, SurfaceFlinger, Window and Activity Manager services.
- Proficiency in Java, C, C++, and Object‑Oriented Programming.
- Domain expertise in IVI SYSTEM, Android Framework, FOTA, Location Services, Android Boot KPI optimizations, Cluster rendering, Navigation, Automotive HMI, Vehicle HAL, Custom HAL, GNSS HAL, Sensor HAL, Camera and EVS HAL.
- Solid understanding of Android best practices and mechanisms for ensuring robustness and stability.
- Hands‑on experience writing unit test cases for developed Android modules.
- Exposure to Android build system; knowledge of Git, Gtest, SVN, and Tortoise configuration tools.
Good to Have
- Strong communication skills and good English (writing, documenting, conversation).
- Android Porting / Upgrading experience.
- Knowledge of traceability, consistency of requirements and feature maturity.
- Understanding and working knowledge of CDD and GAS documents.
- Experience in Google compliance testing (CTS, VTS, STS, ACTS, etc).
- Knowledge of Android middleware (drivers, HAL, libraries, framework, etc).
- Knowledge of testing tools like CANOE.
- Experience with Android tools and debugging techniques.
- Experience in automation of integration tasks with any scripting language (Shell/Python).
