Job summary

Matillion seeks a Principal Engineer in Hyderabad to provide senior technical leadership for Billing and Hub services. You will lead a 10–12 engineer team, shape architecture, and influence global engineering forums while owning end-to-end billing design.

This hands-on leadership role requires extensive backend expertise in Java/Spring Boot, and experience with billing systems, cloud platforms, and agentic AI tooling. Join a fast-growing data automation company with global teams.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend experience in Java and Spring Boot with a strong product company background.
• Proven system design and architecture skills with leadership at Principal level.
• Experience with billing, subscription or entitlement systems and auth/permissions.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure).
• Experience using AI tools in development and an interest in agentic workflows.

• Partnering with Product, GTM and Finance stakeholders to evolve pricing and consumption models.
• Working hands-on with engineers, using AI and agentic tools to build, debug and mentor colleagues.

About the role

We are growing our engineering team in India, and we are looking for a Principal Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across our Billing and Hub services. Working from our Hyderabad office, you will be the technical lead for a team of around 10 to 12 engineers, with a primary focus on Billing, and a seat at the table alongside our global community of principal engineers.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will shape architecture, influence decisions, and work alongside engineers to evolve our services as our product and pricing models grow, while embracing agentic development to build faster and smarter. What you will be doing

What we are looking for

• Extensive backend experience in Java and Spring Boot, with a strong product company background.
• Proven system design and architecture skills, with experience leading technical direction at Principal level.
• Experience with billing, subscription or entitlement systems, and a solid understanding of authentication, authorisation and permissions.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Practical experience using AI tools in your own development work, or building AI-enabled solutions, and a curiosity about agentic ways of working.
