Job summary

Skillz, the first publicly-traded mobile eSports platform, hosts billions of casual gaming tournaments for millions of players worldwide. We seek a backend engineer with 10+ years in Go and/or Java to help scale services and power games at scale.

You will work with AWS/Azure/GCP, Kubernetes, and distributed systems, shaping data stores and caching for a global audience of players and developers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional work experience in Go and/or Java.
• Experience with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or similar container technologies.
• Gaming industry experience or strong interest in building game services.
• Strong knowledge of distributed, multi-tiered systems, caching, and relational databases.
• Bachelor's degree in CS or a technical field, or equivalent experience.

Experience

• 10+ years of professional work experience in Golang (GO) and/or Java.
• Proficient in working with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes or similar container technologies.
• Experience in the Gaming Industry (ideally). Alternatively, passion for building services for games.
• Strong experience with distributed, multi‑tiered systems, caching mechanisms, and relational databases.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a technical field of study, or equivalent industry experience.
