Job summary

Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, seeks a software project engineer to lead technical direction across programs, ensuring DO-178 compliance and certification readiness. You will guide diverse engineering teams and coordinate with global stakeholders while delivering on schedule and scope.

In this senior role, you will shape development plans, manage risks, and report progress, leveraging extensive avionics experience to drive quality and safety in our regulated environments.

• Experience with project management and providing technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Lead software projects as the project engineer through pursuit, bidding, planning, execution and sustainment.
• Ensure consistency with Collins Aerospace engineering processes.
• Define development plans and lead certification efforts per DO-178 and related standards.
• Lead teams from entry-level to senior engineers and communicate progress clearly.
• Communicate risks, opportunities, financial data and other project management information.

What You Will Do

• Lead Projects: You will serve as the software project engineer, supplying project management and technical direction during all program phases including pursuit, bidding, planning, execution, and sustainment.
• Ensure Consistency: You will ensure consistency with Collins Aerospace technical engineering processes.
• Define Development Plans: You will help define development plans, ensure compliance with DO-178 and other certification requirements, and lead certification efforts through audits.
• Guide Teams: You will lead a wide range of entry-level to highly experienced engineers.
• Communicate Effectively: You will communicate technical progress, risks, opportunities, financial data, and other project management information clearly and concisely.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience with Avionics regulatory and certification requirements and processes is preferred.
• Experience with RTCA/FAA DO-160/DO-178 Standards and an understanding of their application in safety‑critical avionics systems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team through the full software development cycle in a regulated industry, preferably with experience in avionics software projects.
