The Role & Opportunity

This role will own the technical direction of a critical host-to-host capability used by corporate clients to exchange payment and reporting files. The successful candidate will combine deep managed file transfer expertise with modern engineering skills, ensuring secure, resilient and auditable movement of business-critical data. This is an opportunity to modernise a strategically important integration channel while influencing platform architecture and operational excellence.

Must-Haves

• Deep experience with IBM Sterling File Gateway and Sterling B2B Integrator.


• Hands-on Java experience and credibility.


• Experience designing MFT platforms, partner connectivity and routing solutions.


• Expertise in Sterling business-process orchestration.


• Strong knowledge of secure file transfer protocols including SFTP, FTPS and Connect:Direct.


• Experience with file transformation, mapping and validation.


• Experience setting technical direction across integration platforms.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience scaling partner onboarding processes.


• Audit and regulatory experience.


• Expertise in file lineage, tracking and SLA monitoring.


• Knowledge of Payments messaging standards and file formats.


• Experience modernising legacy MFT environments through cloud, automation or containerisation.

• Provision of guidance and expertise to engineering teams to ensure alignment with best practices and foster a culture of technical excellence.


• Contribution to strategic planning by aligning technical decisions with business goals, anticipating future technology trends, and providing insights to optimize product roadmaps.


• Design and implementation of complex, scalable, and maintainable software solutions, considering long-term viability and business objectives.


• Mentoring and coaching to junior and mid-level engineers to foster professional growth and knowledge sharing, elevating the overall skillset and capabilities of the organization.


• Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.


• Innovation within the organization by identifying and incorporating new technologies, methodologies, and industry practices into the engineering process.
