Job Description
- Provide technical leadership and expert guidance on building envelope design, construction methodology, materials selection, and performance requirements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop façade engineers, graduates, and technicians.
- Plan and manage team resources, workload allocation, and project assignments.
- Prepare and review fee proposals, resource estimates, project plans, and change requests.
- Participate in design meetings, contributing to discussions and presenting scheme calculations and sketches.
- Conduct research on potential cladding materials.
- Prepare design reports for various stages of the project, including concept, scheme, and detail.
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, environmental engineers, fire engineers, acousticians, and contractors.
- Participate in site inspections and assist in writing/reviewing reports.
Qualifications
- 12 to 15 years of work experience.
- A recognised degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in a built environment discipline (Façade Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or similar).
- Proven experience in a façade design/engineering role or other relevant industry experience in building physics and sustainability design.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working toward chartership with a recognised professional institution.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.
- An interest in the facades/cladding market.
- A desire to understand the impact of façade systems on the structure and environmental performance of buildings.
- An interest in environmental aspects of façade design, including thermal performance, daylight, and solar control.
- In-depth technical and design skills related to building envelope design and detailing, construction techniques, procurement routes and risk assessment.
- Ability to maintain personal effectiveness particularly during periods of higher-than-normal workload.
- Ability to communicate with people at all levels in both technical and non‑technical environments and to develop and maintain successful client relationships.
- Planning and organisational skills with excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD design software (e.g., Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper).
- Proficiency in Façade Embodied Carbon Assessment will be an added advantage.
- Understanding of and some ability to use analysis software tools (structural or thermal) such as Strand7, ANSYS, SolidWorks, Mepla, Vitrages, Bisco, Trisco, Builddesk or Flixo will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with international codes including European standards will be a plus.
